Minnesota Twins pitcher Jose Berrios has had some success against the Baltimore Orioles in his career. So, Monday afternoon, the choice was made to continue that success. Berrios threw 8 innings, Jorge Polanco homered, the Twins beat the Orioles 3-2 in 10 innings on Monday afternoon.

Berrios allowed one run on just 5 hits, recording 6 strikeouts in 8 marvelous innings for the Twins. Taylor Rogers threw a scoreless 9th inning to get the win, and Hansel Robles worked the 10th for his 4th save of the season.

Twins manager Rocco Baldelli said of Berrios that "He was magnificent. I told him that. He threw the ball to the best of his ability. He had it all working. He got quick outs. He got swing and misses. He got everything he needed to do. He was putting the ball where he wanted to. He had really the full mastery of all his pitches today. He was fantastic.”

Kyle Garlick scored in the 3rd inning for the Twins on a fielders choice, making it 1-0 Twins. In the 5th, Ryan Mountcastle tied it for Baltimore with a solo homer to center field. In the 10th, Rob Refsnyder scored on a wild pitch and Polanco hit a solo homer to make it 3-1. Baltimore got one back on an RBI double from DJ Stewart, but that was all.

Twins 3rd baseman Josh Donaldson said of the offense that "Offensively, we’re really close. At the end of the day, you just have to keep going up there and having confidence and trusting the at bats.”

Jorge Lopez allowed one run on 5 hits and two walks, striking out 7 hitters over 6 innings for the Orioles. Adam Plutko got the loss in the 10th, while the team as a whole got their 14th straight loss, and 16th straight against the Twins.

Mountcastle said that "It’s been tough the last couple of weeks, but we’re trying to keep our head up and trying to keep playing hard. We’ve been in a lot of close games and we’ve just got to try to turn the page and hopefully move on to the next one and win tomorrow.”

The Twins and Orioles play again tonight, with Michael Pineda starting for Minnesota, and Bruce Zimmerman going for the Orioles.
