Needing an outfielder due to injuries decimating the outfield, the Los Angeles Angels saw a veteran option hit the market and pounced. The Angels have signed OF Adam Eaton to a contract for the rest of the season, according to MLB.com's Rhett Bollinger. Financial terms of the contract have not been disclosed. The Angels have confirmed the move.

Eaton was recently DFA'd and released by the Chicago White Sox, hitting just .201 with a meager .642 OPS, hitting 5 homers and driving in 28 runs in 58 games for the White Sox, after signing a one year deal with them in the offseason. For his career, Eaton has a .278 average with a .768 OPS, hitting 65 homers and driving in 317 runs in 889 games, spread across 10 seasons and 3 teams.

The Angels outfield has been decimated with injuries recently. Mike Trout has been out since mid June, and Justin Upton has been out since late June. Additionally, Dexter Fowler is on the 60 Day IL, which had forced the Angels to play infielders Luis Rengifo, Jose Rojas, and Phil Gosselin in the outfield recently, as Jo Adell and Brandon Marsh are still developing in the minors. Eaton, Juan Lagares, and Taylor Ward are the only healthy outfielders on the active roster.

Eaton has the ability to play all 3 outfield positions, which is a critical need for the Angels at this point, as well as a lefty bat, which the Angels could also use. For now, expect Eaton to play the majority of the time in right field, with Lagares manning center, and Ward in left. RHP Dillon Peters was DFA'd to make room for Eaton.
