We have a sneaky good trade on our hands. The Houston Astros have acquired RHP's Kendall Graveman and Rafael Montero from the Seattle Mariners, in exchange for RHP Joe Smith and 3B Abraham Toro, according to MLB.com's Mark Feinsand. The trade has been confirmed by both teams.

Astros GM James Click said of Graveman's season that "We were very impressed with him. We’ve obviously seen him up close and personal. He’s a guy that I know our hitters in our clubhouse have been very impressed with, and being able to have him on our side is something we’re all looking forward to. What impact he can have with his ability to get big outs and sort of lengthen our bullpen a little bit, I think, is one critical step in the right direction as we try to round out the rest of the roster."

So far this season, Graveman has a 4-0 record with a stellar 0.82 ERA, with 33 innings pitched in 30 appearances, saving 10 games for the Mariners. In his 7 seasons, Graveman has a 28-32 record, with a 4.20 ERA, with 335 strikeouts in 497 2/3 innings pitched, across 124 appearances, 80 of which were starts.

Graveman himself said "I understand the business of this game. I understand how things can happen quickly. I was a little bit shocked, to be honest. I’m excited to put on this jersey. I’ve competed against this team for a long time. I know the talent that’s on this team. It’s exciting to lock arms with them for the last two months and beyond."

The other reliever heading to Houston is Montero, who has a 5-3 record, with a concerningly high 7.27 ERA, with 17 saves in 40 relief appearances, totaling 43 1/3 innings pitched. In his 7 year career, Montero has a 13-20 record with a 5.29 ERA, with 15 saves in 137 games, 30 being starts.

In 27 appearances with the Astros, Smith has a 1-1  record with a 7.48 ERA, throwing 21 2/3 innings while striking out 17 hitters. In his long career, spanning 14 seasons, Smith has a 51-30 record with a 3.11 ERA, with 30 saves across 810 total appearances, split between 6 teams.

Toro has played 35 games for the Astros, hitting .211 with a .672 OPS, with 6 homers and 20 RBI this season, bouncing between Triple A and the majors. In his short career, Toro has a .196 average with a .642 OPS, hitting 12 homers and driving in 40 runs in 94 games.

For all players involved in this trade, there isn't any immediate movement, as the Mariners and Astros are still facing each other in Seattle for their series, which ends on Wednesday afternoon at 3:40 PM Eastern time.
