The New York Mets were ahead of the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-0, and had a 99.2 percent chance of winning the game. Then, an old foe known as blowing leads came back. Wilmer Difo hit a 3 run homer, Jacob Stallings hit a walk off grand slam, and the Pirates defeated the Mets 9-7 on Saturday night, capping a thrilling comeback.

Pirates manager Derek Shelton said "He was aggressive. He was ready to hit against a guy throwing 100. I knew when he hit it he got enough of it, I just wasn’t sure if it was going to stay fair. That’s a heck of a comeback."

The Mets started the game in front, with JD Davis hitting a two run homer in the 4th inning, and another in the 6th, making it a 4-0 Mets lead. In the 7th, an RBI double from Travis Blankenhorn, and an RBI single from Jeff McNeil added to the lead, making it a 6-0 game after 7 innings. They would get one more run in the 9th, courtesy of a Brandon Nimmo solo homer.

For the Pirates, the comeback began in the 8th inning. John Nogowski started it with an RBI double to left field, cutting it to 6-1. Ben Gamel then scored on a fielders choice, and it was a 6-2 game. Difo then stepped up, and ripped a 3 run homer to right field, and the Pirates were suddenly within one run, down 6-5. After giving up a run in the 9th, the Pirates loaded the bases for Stallings, who delivered the walk off slam.

Stallings said "I definitely did not know that I had it. I didn't even really run when I hit it. I figured he was either going to catch it or it was going to be a home run, so I figured I might as well just stand there and watch and see what happened."

It was Clay Holmes who got the win for the Pirates, pitching in the top of the 9th, improving to 3-2 this season. Wil Crowe got the start for the Pirates, and did a fine job, allowing 4 runs on 6 hits and 3 walks, striking out 3 hitters over 5 1/3 innings of work. Kyle Keller was responsible for the other two runs scored by the Mets, while Chasen Shreve and Kyle Crick each didn't allow a run.

For the Mets, it was Edwin Diaz who blew the save and got the loss, blowing his 3rd save and falling to 3-4 on the season. Tylor Megill did as well as the Mets could've hoped in his start, throwing 6 shutout innings, while allowing 6 hits and striking out two hitters. Trevor May, Seth Lugo, and Aaron Loup also pitched.

Lugo said of the loss that "It's not going to get us down. We're going to come up tomorrow and we're going to play a good, hard game and try to take something away from this series and keep moving forward. We got a lot of baseball left and one loss doesn't define the team. We're a good ballclub and we're going to show up tomorrow."

The Pirates and Mets wrap up their series this afternoon, with JT Brubaker going for Pittsburgh, and Taijuan Walker getting the start for the Mets.
