Another power hitter who strikes out a ton is coming to the New York Yankees. The Yankees have acquired OF Joey Gallo and LHP Joely Rodriguez from the Texas Rangers in exchange for RHP Glen Otto and IF's Ezequiel Duran, Josh Smith, and Trevor Hauver, according to Jeff Passan of ESPN. The trade has been confirmed by the Yankees and Rangers.

In Gallo, the Yankees are getting an outfielder who can play all 3 outfield spots, as well as first base. Gallo hits for a lot of power, but strikes out a ton as well, with an approximate 36 percent strikeout rate, well above the league average. The Yankees are getting money relief, as the Rangers are paying all of Gallo and Rodriguez's salaries for this season.

In 95 games this season, Gallo, voted to the AL all star team, is hitting .223 with an .869 OPS, with 25 homers and 55 RBI for the Rangers. In his 7 seasons, all with the Rangers, Gallo has a .211 batting average with a .833 OPS, hitting 145 homers and driving in 317 runs in 568 games, making two all star teams in the process.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said "We’re incredibly excited to add two players that we feel like are really going to help us. Hopefully people are talking about what a tremendous all-around player we’re getting in Gallo. A really good athlete: a guy that runs the bases, has some speed, that’s a really good defender in the outfield. The tremendous patience and power that he has, we’re excited to add an All-Star."

There was a lot of name changing in the trade. Originally, it was Gallo and John King going to New York, with Yankee prospects Everson Pereira and Randy Vasquez being part of the return. That deal was then changed to the version that it is now. It was also rumored that Yankees RHP Clarke Schmidt was in the trade, but his name apparently never came up in trade talks.

The Rangers get several players who go into their top 30 prospects right away. Otto, Duran, Hauver, and Smith all get in, with Smith ranking 7th in the Rangers system, and Duran at number 8.
