Jorge Alfaro has been the number one catcher in Miami since they got him in the JT Realmuto trade from the Phillies. He showed why on Wednesday night. Brian Anderson homered, Alfaro drove in the winning run, and the Miami Marlins defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 4-3 on Wednesday night, in 10 innings.

After the game, Alfaro said "I was trying to find a pitch at the top of the zone, middle, something up, and make good contact. I just tried to put the ball in play and run as hard as I can to first base."

Alfaro gave the Marlins a 1-0 lead in the second inning, singling into left field, scoring Anderson. In the 6th. Anderson unleashed a solo home run to center field, and it was then 2-0 Marlins. In the top of the 7th inning, a two run home run by Josh Bell tied the score, and Yadiel Hernandez added a solo home run to put Washington ahead 3-2. In the bottom of the 7th, Jesus Aguilar doubled home Magneuris Sierra to tie the game 3-3. In the 10th, Alfaro singled home Jesus Sanchez to give the Marlins the walk off win.

It was the MLB debut of Marlins pitching prospect Edward Cabrera, recently called up by Triple A Jacksonville. He starred in his big league debut, although being charged with both home runs. He allowed 3 runs on 4 hits and 3 walks, striking out his first two major league hitters in 6 1/3 innings pitched. Dylan Floro got the win in relief, moving to 5-4 on the season.

Cabrera said through an interpreter that "I woke up this morning with a lot of confidence. I had in my mind just like, 'You're here. Let's see what's going to happen now. God willing, everything will come out correctly.' And that's what happened. But I've got to be honest. Last night I was thinking a lot about the dream."

Kyle Finnegan was charged with the loss in relief for the Nationals, giving up the walk off hit by Alfaro in the 10th inning, dropping to a 4-5 record this season. Top pitching prospect Josiah Gray got another start, allowing two runs on 5 hits and 3 walks, striking out 7 hitters in 6 innings of work. The Nationals also put in Andres Machado, Kyle McGowin, and Austin Voth in relief.

Marlins manager Don Mattingly said of Gray's start for Washington that "He did a nice job with us. He kept us down. Looks like he's a guy who could throw the ball at the top of the zone with some spin; his breaking ball doesn't really come out with any kind of hump on it. I couldn't tell the difference in the breaking ball, it looked like a split almost to me, and he doesn't really throw a split. I thought he was pretty good."

The Marlins and Nationals wrap up their series tonight, with Elieser Hernandez starting the series finale for the Marlins, and Patrick Corbin toeing the rubber for the Nationals.
