It was crosstown rivalry time at Dodger stadium, with the Los Angeles Angels doing battle against the Los Angeles Dodgers. We can give round one to the folks in Anaheim. Jack Mayfield homered, Jose Iglesias homered, and the Angels defeated the Dodgers 4-3 in 10 innings on Friday night.

Angels manager Joe Maddon was pleased with the effort postgame, saying during his interview that it was "Overall a great team win for us. Our guys are pitching really well. Overall we’ve been able to match things up late in the game."

With superstar Mike Trout still injured, as well as breakout star Jared Walsh, the Angels have been finding ways to win without them, as they sit two games over .500, with a 56-54 record. In one run games, the Angels lead baseball with a .690 winning percentage.

Iglesias got the Angels going in the 5th, with a solo homer to center field making it a 2-1 lead for the Dodgers. In the 6th inning, Mayfield hit a solo homer, also to center, which made it a 2-2 deadlock. It remained that way until the top of the 10th, when Iglesias hit an RBI double, and Mayfield hit an RBI single, pushing the Angels over the top.

Former Angel Albert Pujols got the Dodgers started in the first, with Mookie Betts scoring on his groundout to give the Dodgers a 1-0 lead to start. In the 4th, AJ Pollock scored on a single from Betts to make it a 2-0 lead. They did not score again until the bottom of the 10th, when they cut the deficit to 4-3 on a sac fly from Corey Seager.

The Dodgers extra inning woes continued Friday night, as they fell to a league worst 1-12 record in extra innings this season. It's a strange twist of fate given their 65-45 record, 20 games over .500, and second place in the NL West.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said "There’s no explanation. I think tonight Iglesias lined the ball and got a guy over and drilled them in. And Max had a tough play going back on the ball. That’s how this one played out. But I don’t have an explanation for the 1-12 record."

Austin Warren picked up the win for the Angels, throwing 2 1/3 shutout innings late in the game, allowing just one hit. Raisel Iglesias got his 24th of the season in the 10th inning. Patrick Sandoval got the start, allowing two runs on 7 hits and two walks, striking out 4 hitters in 5 innings.

The Dodgers and Angels continue their series tonight, with Jaime Barria starting for the Angels, and Julio Urias getting the start for the Dodgers.
