On Friday night in Los Angeles, we saw a home run special. There were not home runs leaving the yard left and right, but all the runs were scored on homers. Charlie Blackmon homered, CJ Cron homered, and the Colorado Rockies defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-2 on Friday night.

Blackmon said of his homer that "I think there's a period of situations where you have a good idea that a fastball is coming. It felt like he was going to throw me one there, and he did. He threw that pitch right down the middle, but I was ready for it."

Of the 6 runs scored between both teams, there were a total of 5 home runs hit. Just one, a homer by Blackmon, scored more than one run. With the win, the Rockies won away from the confines of Coors Field for just the 16th time this season.

In the first inning, Blackmon gave the Rockies an early spark with a two run home run down the right field line to give the men from Colorado a 2-0 lead. In the 3rd inning, Will Smith and Trea Turner each hit solo home runs for the Dodgers, and suddenly the game was tied 2-2. It stayed that way until the 6th, when Cron achieved liftoff with a solo homer to make it 3-2. In the 9th, Elias Diaz put the exclamation point on the win with a homer of his own.

Kyle Freeland continued a strong stretch of play for the Rockies, improving to a 5-6 record on the season. He allowed two runs on 4 hits, not allowing a walk and fanning 7 hitters in 6 innings pitched. Jhoulys Chacin and Daniel Bard each got holds in scoreless innings of relief, and Carlos Estevez got his 3rd save of the season by shutting the door in the 9th inning.

Freeland said of his start that "Coming into Dodger Stadium, playing against a World Series-caliber team, that's motivation. I love pitching here. I love taking wins from these guys. I love beating them in their own park, so that's plenty of motivation for me."

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts was impressed by Freeland as well, saying that "I thought he spun us a lot. There was a change, but also that slider. He was striking it when he needed to and getting us to chase down below. And he was mixing in his fastball at various times."

Andre Jackson got hit with the loss for the Dodgers, allowing one run on 4 hits and two walks, striking out two hitters in 4 2/3 innings pitched in relief, falling to 0-1 on the season. Brusdar Graterol threw one inning as an opener, allowing the two run homer to Blackmon. Alex Vesia was responsible for the other run scored.

The Rockies and Dodgers continue their series tonight, with Jon Gray getting the start for Colorado, and Corey Knebel taking the mound as an opener for the Dodgers.
