After leaving the confines of Chavez Ravine following the 2018 season, Daniel Hudson is back. The Los Angeles Dodgers and Hudson have agreed to a one year, $7 million deal, according to MLB.com's Mark Feinsand. The Dodgers have confirmed the deal.

The Dodgers had previously shown interest in Hudson, trying hard to acquire him at the 2021 trade deadline, but he instead was dealt to their foes down south in the San Diego Padres. Once he got down there, he struggled, which ultimately brought down his season numbers after a strong first half of the season.

Split between the Padres and Washington Nationals last season, Hudson had a 5-3 record with a 3.31 ERA and 1.08 WHIP, striking out 75 hitters while issuing just 16 walks, totaling 51 2/3 innings pitched last season across 54 relief appearances, 23 of which were in a Padres uniform. His 35.7 percent strikeout rate was the best of his career, as was his 7.6 percent walk rate.

Hudson has previously pitched in a Dodgers uniform in the 2018 season, when he finished with a 3-2 record with a 4.11 ERA and 1.22 WHIP, striking out 44 hitters in 46 innings, totaling 40 relief appearances, a season that ended with the Dodgers losing to the Boston Red Sox in the World Series. Hudson eventually won the World Series a year later with the Nationals after being acquired at the trade deadline from the Toronto Blue Jays.

In 12 seasons in the big leagues, Hudson has a career 57-40 record with a 3.86 ERA and 1.24 WHIP, striking out a total of 719 hitters, tossing 765 innings, saving 27 career games in 393 relief appearances and 61 starts. In 9 relief appearances and one start in the playoffs, Hudson has a 1-1 record with a 5.40 ERA, saving 4 games in 15 innings, including nailing down game 7 of the World Series in 2019.

At the beginning of his career, Hudson came up as a starting pitcher, but had become a full time reliever by the 2014 season, only making spot starts from that point on, a total of 3 after that. Hudson has played for 7 teams in his career, with those being the Dodgers, Padres, Nationals, Blue Jays, Arizona Diamondbacks, Chicago White Sox, and Pittsburgh Pirates.

Hudson is the second signing that the Dodgers have made this offseason, joining lefty starter Andrew Heaney. The Dodgers bullpen last season was one of the best in baseball, but several key members of that are free agents. Kenley Jansen, Joe Kelly, Corey Knebel, and Jimmy Nelson top the list.
