Rosenthal no longer part of MLB Network after Manfred criticism

If you watch any of the nationally televised baseball games on Fox or FS1 at any point in the regular season, and especially during the playoffs, then you know exactly who Ken Rosenthal is. Well, he's got a change in his workload. Rosenthal will not have his contract renewed by MLB Network after criticism of commissioner Rob Manfred, according to the New York Post.

Both MLB Network and Rosenthal have confirmed the news, with Rosenthal releasing a statement on his Twitter. After a brief suspension last summer, Rosenthal returned to the network, and now, with his contract expired, MLB Network is not extending it, making Rosenthal no longer a part of the network, which is owned by MLB.

A spokesperson for MLB Network told the Post that "As MLB Network continues to look at fresh ways to bring baseball to our viewers, there is a natural turnover in our talent roster that takes place each year. Ken played a significant part at MLB Network over the last 13 years. From spring training to the winter meetings, we thank him for his work across MLB Network's studio, game, and event programming, and wish him the very best going forward."

In the summer of 2020, Rosenthal wrote an article for The Athletic during the MLB and MLBPA negotiations of the playing conditions of the 2020 season. Rosenthal had the opinion in that article that Manfred's legacy would forever be ruined if the owners and players could not salvage a season in 2020. In response to that, Rosenthal was kept off MLB Network for 3 months, but was not formally suspended.

With MLB and the players currently entrenched in a lockout, Rosenthal has since wrote an article for The Athletic that called out the letter Rob Manfred sent out on the MLB website and MLB Network, and coming up with some suggestions of his own for what should be in the new CBA. Rosenthal will still work for The Athletic and Fox Sports, so you'll still see him in the dugouts for Fox when you turn on a game.
