Big 12 2022 College Baseball Preview

Since we remain in the midst of the MLB lockout, and there is no sign there will be a conclusion soon, I put up a poll on the Strikeout Central twitter page, asking the followers if they would like to see college baseball game recaps if there is a delay to the MLB season. The majority said yes, so I figured that if there would be college baseball game recaps, I should do some season previews.

As we get close to wrapping up the season previews for the power 5 conferences, it's time to look at a high impact conference, the Big 12. How does this group shape up this year?

TCU Horned Frogs
The Horned Frogs are no strangers to the postseason and the college world series, and they'll be looking to return for the first time since 2017. Kirk Saarloos, in his first year as manager, takes over a really good team, ranked very highly nationally. They look to climb the big 12 standings this season, and realize the potential they have.

Texas Longhorns
This bunch right here might be one of the best teams in the country. They were ever so close to the college world series title game last season, and look to take home the title this year. Tristan Stevens, Tanner Witt, and Pete Hansen are the big guns in the rotation, a good group certainly. Big bopper Ivan Melendez returns to lead the lineup, with Trey Faltine, Mitchell Daly and Silas Ardoin all returning, plus a Kansas transfer in Skyler Messinger joining the team. This bunch is really, really good.

Texas Tech Red Raiders
The Red Raiders start and end with the production of all American candidate Jace Jung. That's not a knock on the rest of the team, but Jung is just so good that he really has the biggest effect on how far Texas Tech goes. His 17 home runs and over 70 RBI's from last season will carry this team far, hopefully.

Oklahoma State Cowboys
After finishing out of the top 25 nationally last year, the Cowboys did get better. A transfer in Victor Mederos from Miami will help stabilize the middle of the rotation. The lineup is still pretty good, and you can't discount this team.

The rest of the conference
  • Oklahoma Sooners
  • Baylor Bears
  • West Virginia Mountaineers
  • Iowa State Cyclones
  • Kansas Jayhawks
  • Kansas State Wildcats
