With their manager entering the final year of his contract, the Colorado Rockies acted quickly to extend the bridge for him. The Rockies and manager Bud Black have agreed to a one year contract extension that keeps him at the helm through the 2023 season, according to Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post. The Rockies have confirmed the move.

The 64 year old was entering the 2022 season on the final year of his current contract with the Rockies. They seem to feel he is the guy to stick with for at least another season, with the one year extension giving Black a bridge deal.

Black first took over the Rockies in 2017, leading them to the NL Wild Card game, where they lost a thriller to the Arizona Diamondbacks. In 2018, his second year at the helm, they beat the Chicago Cubs in the Wild Card game to advance to the NLDS, where they were swept by the Milwaukee Brewers, 3-0 in a best of 5 series.

From that point on, it was all downhill for the Rockies. 2019 saw them finish 4th in the NL West with a disappointing 71-91 record. The short 2020 season wasn't any better, as they finished with a 26-34 mark in the 60 game season. Last season, after trading Nolan Arenado, the Rockies struggled to the finish line, ending the season with a 74-87 record, again finishing in 4th place in the NL West.

To date, Black has a 349-359 career record with the Rockies. Prior to landing in Denver, he managed the San Diego Padres from 2007-2015, winning NL Manager of the year in 2010. He left the Padres with a 649-713 record
