SEC 2022 College Baseball Preview

Since we remain in the midst of the MLB lockout, and there is no sign there will be a conclusion soon, I put up a poll on the Strikeout Central twitter page, asking the followers if they would like to see college baseball game recaps if there is a delay to the MLB season. The majority said yes, so I figured that if there would be college baseball game recaps, I should do some season previews.

As we continue our season previews along, it's time to cover the SEC. The SEC has long been a baseball powerhouse, so let's take a look at the top teams in the conference.

Vanderbilt Commodores
Losing Jack Leiter and Kumar Rocker to the MLB draft stings, but if anyone can overcome it, it's Tim Corbin's squad. They always recruit well, and this year's team is just as good as previous units, so they'll be a safe bet to reach the college world series in Omaha this year.

Florida Gators
The 2021 season for the men from Gainesville was a difficult one, but this year they appear to be better off. The talent is returning from last year, and they landed themselves a top 10 recruiting class. This team is on the upswing, and could find themselves in Omaha soon.

Tennessee Volunteers
The Vols hadn't been a big threat in baseball, until last year happened. They managed to get through their difficult conference schedule and make the college world series. This year, they're looking to prove it's sustainable, with talent returning and new faces joining up. This team can be pretty scary.

Mississippi State Bulldogs
The reining national champions lost some key pieces to the MLB draft, but they enter this year with some of their best hitters still in the fold, and a very deadly arsenal of relief pitching. They're looking to get to Omaha for the 4th year in a row, and it seems like this team can pull it off, with how deep they are.

Arkansas Razorbacks
The Razorbacks enter the season as top contenders in the SEC West, but the loss of star pitcher Peyton Pallette for the season due to injury certainly hurts. Adversity is coming back for the Razorbacks, and they need to prove they can overcome the loss of Pallette and make the world series without his help.

The rest of the conference
  • Georgia Bulldogs
  • South Carolina Gamecocks
  • Kentucky Wildcats
  • Missouri Tigers
  • Mississippi Rebels
  • LSU Tigers
  • Texas A&M Aggies
  • Auburn Tigers
  • Alabama Crimson Tide
