Dickerson signing with Cardinals

In a quest for another outfield bat, the St. Louis Cardinals found some excess goods in Toronto. The Cardinals and OF Corey Dickerson have agreed to a one year, $5 million deal that includes incentives, according to Derrick S. Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. The Cardinals have confirmed the deal.

Prior to the 2020 season, Dickerson signed a deal with the Miami Marlins. He got in 63 games in 2021 with the Marlins, before hitting the IL with a left foot contusion in June. A few weeks later, he was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays, and appeared in 46 games after being activated in early August. Dickerson was originally drafted by the Colorado Rockies in 2009, but stayed in college before being drafted by the Rockies again in 2010.

Last season, split between the Marlins and Blue Jays, Dickerson finished the season with a .271 batting average, to go with a .408 slugging percentage and .734 OPS, hitting just 6 home runs and driving in 29, stealing 6 bases in 109 games.

Across Dickerson's 9 year major league career, split between 6 different teams, he has a lifetime .283 average, with a .488 slugging percentage and .815 OPS, mashing 128 home runs with 416 RBI's, adding 30 stolen bases in 937 regular season games. In 5 career playoff games, Dickerson has one home run and 3 RBI's, adding another 3 hits and two walks.

In the field, Dickerson has spent the majority of his time in left field, but has played a handful of games in center field. He has a 2018 NL Gold Glove award thanks to a +10 OAA that season, with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Since then, he has a +2 OAA, and is a perfectly serviceable and above average defender.

With the Cardinals, they have an outfield rotation of Harrison Bader, Tyler O'Neill, and Dylan Carlson firmly entrenched, so Dickerson would likely see time as a 4th outfielder, and could get some reps at DH after it was implemented in the NL this offseason.
