South Florida is getting an injection of Soler power to the lineup. The Miami Marlins and OF Jorge Soler have agreed to a 3 year, $36 million deal, with opt outs after the first and second years, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan. The Marlins have confirmed the deal.

After finishing ranked 29th in the league in OPS and runs scored, and 28th overall in home runs, the Marlins have prioritized adding big bats to the lineup. The addition of Soler, the 2021 world series MVP, who can hit a ball clear out of a ballpark, certainly figures to be a big help to the team. Positionally, he'll either play a corner outfield spot or draw reps at DH.

Last season, split between the Kansas City Royals and the Braves, Soler finished the regular season with a .223 average with a .432 slugging percentage and .749 OPS, drilling 27 home runs to go with 70 RBI's, playing in 149 regular season games. He racked up 3 home runs and 6 RBI's in the playoffs, all coming in the world series.

In his career, spanning 8 seasons and 3 different teams, Soler has regular season numbers of a .246 average with a .465 slugging percentage and .796 OPS, mashing 121 home runs and driving in 343, playing in 661 games. Soler, who has world series rings in 2016 and 2021, has a .292 average and 1.11 OPS, with 6 home runs and 11 RBI's in 26 career playoff games.

Soler's big calling card is the light tower power that got him into the big leagues to begin with. He is, in fact, not someone you should expect to hit for contact, being very prone to swings and misses. But when he does hit the ball, boy it goes a long way, with his 43 home runs of 420 feet or more since 2019 leading the majors in that category.

The acquisition of Soler is the latest in a busy offseason for the Marlins. He joins Louis Head, Joey Wendle, Avisail Garcia, and Jacob Stallings as new faces in Marlins spring training camp.
