Yeah, this ends any chance of Trevor Story coming back to town. The Colorado Rockies and SS Jose Iglesias have agreed to a one year, $5 million deal, according to MLB.com's Mark Feinsand. The Rockies have confirmed the signing.

The Rockies had tried to retain their star shortstop Story before the lockout, but changing his mind on leaving was slim to begin with, so the Rockies had to settle on Iglesias, after Andrelton Simmons signed with the Cubs earlier in free agency. This is Iglesias's second trip to the NL, after playing for the Cincinnati Reds for one season.

After being DFA'd and released by the Los Angeles Angels, Iglesias signed a deal with his original team, the Boston Red Sox, for the rest of 2021. It was there that he experienced a resurgence. In 23 games, Iglesias hit .356 with a .915 OPS, with one home run and 7 RBI's. That brought his season stats to a .271 average and .701 OPS, with 9 home runs and 48 RBI's in 137 games played.

In 10 big league seasons, split between 5 different teams, Iglesias has a .277 batting average with a even .700 OPS, slugging .382 and hitting 44 home runs, driving in 319 runs in 978 regular season games played. He played in 11 playoff games in the Detroit Tigers ALCS run in 2013.

Iglesias, who is a defense first shortstop, will likely be the Rockies opening day starter at shortstop. Ryan McMahon will likely start beside him at either second or 3rd base, with prospect Brendan Rodgers either starting at second base or available as a bench option.
