Both the Chicago White Sox and Toronto Blue Jays had an excess amount of catchers, so they traded to each other. The Blue Jays have acquired C Zack Collins from the White Sox in exchange for C Reese McGuire, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan. Both teams have confirmed the move.

The Blue Jays and White Sox both have 3 quality catchers, with the White Sox rostering Yasmani Grandal, Seby Zavala, and now McGuire, and Collins lost his roster spot in September due to the strong play of Zavala. McGuire had fallen behind Danny Jansen and Alejandro Kirk on the Blue Jays depth chart, and now he gets a fresh start as well.

Last season, in limited playing time, McGuire finished the 2021 season with a .253 batting average, with a .343 slugging percentage and .654 OPS, knocking one home run with 10 RBI's, drawing 15 walks in 78 games for the Blue Jays.

Across 4 big league seasons, all with the Blue Jays, McGuire has a .248 batting average with a .390 slugging percentage and .687 OPS, hitting 9 home runs and driving in 26, with one career stolen base in 141 regular season games, having no playoff experience.

Collins, a former top draft pick by the White Sox, finished 2021 with a .210 batting average, posting a meager .338 slugging percentage and .669 OPS, hitting 4 home runs with 26 RBI's, adding one stolen base in 78 games, being limited mostly due to injury, which led to the callup of Zavala in the first place, who ended up keeping his roster spot.

Across parts of 3 major league seasons with the White Sox, Collins has a career .195 batting average with a .330 slugging percentage and .645 OPS, hitting 7 home runs with 38 RBI's, drawing 50 walks in 114 regular season games.

Both catchers are likely to compete for backup roles with their new teams. McGuire backing up Grandal, and Collins with Jansen.
