No, he's not the same guy who walked off the 2001 world series, but this guy is alright too. Joc Pederson homered, Luis Gonzalez hit a clutch home run, and the San Francisco Giants defeated the Milwaukee Brewers with a 4-2 victory on Monday night in Milwaukee.

This matchup took place because of a series postponed due to the lockout, with the Giants returning here again in September for a doubleheader matchup. Regardless of the timing of it, it's a good ending to a long road trip for the Giants, who went 8-3 in their 11 game road trip. Part of it was thanks to Gonzalez, who recorded both his first major league hit and home run in this game.

Giants manager Gabe Kapler talked about the successful road trip, saying that "It's nice. The road trip finished in dramatic fashion with one of our newer players introduced with his first Major League home run. I think we’re going to enjoy the flight home and get ready for when we get back."

It was the Brewers who got on the board first in this one. In the bottom of the second, Mike Brosseau did the job, lacing a single to score Keston Hiura, putting the Brewers up 1-0 early. It stayed 1-0 all the way until the 8th inning, which is when Joc Pederson put the Giants ahead 2-1, blasting a two run home run to center field.

That lead for the Giants didn't last very long. Because, in the bottom of the 8th inning, Willy Adames tied the game for the Brewers, sending a solo home run out to center field to tie the game 2-2. In the top of the 9th inning, Gonzalez stepped up and delivered, putting the Giants ahead 4-2 with a two run home run to right field.

Kapler said of Gonzalez that "He was locking himself in through that whole at-bat. The base hit off Burnes really gave him a lot of confidence. In that situation, it was the best time for his first Major League home run to show up and be so clutch. Also aesthetically, really pretty."

With several starting pitchers on the shelf, the Giants had a bullpen game in this one. Dominic Leone and Jake McGee were the only ones who allowed any runs, with McGee getting the win. Camilo Doval got the save, with Sam Long, Jose Alvarez, Yunior Marte, Zack Littell, and John Brebbia also pitching in this one.

It was Corbin Burnes who got the start for the Brewers, who got a no decision after a fantastic start. Burnes finished 6 2/3 innings of shutout ball, allowing two hits and walking two hitters, fanning 11 hitters in his start. Trevor Gott allowed two runs in 1 1/3 innings, with Jake Cousins getting the loss after allowing Gonzalez's homer in the 9th inning.

Brewers manager Craig Counsell said of the team's lack of hitting that "We're in a place right now where we just don't have a lot of guys feeling good. I don't think we're swinging at bad pitches, I just think we're missing pitches to hit. That's going to change."

Up next, the Giants head home on Tuesday night for a series with the Oakland Athletics, where Carlos Rodon is getting the start. Brandon Woodruff will start for the Brewers as they face the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday night.
