Times are doing just great in Queens right now. Nick Plummer drove in 4 runs, Starling Marte homered and drove in 4 runs on his own, and the New York Mets routed the Washington Nationals with a 13-5 victory on Monday night in Queens.

Coming into their series with the Nationals after a sweep of the Philadelphia Phillies, the Mets exploded for their 4th straight win, and 7 wins in 10 games. They were driven by the performances of Marte and the rookie Plummer, who each had a home run and 4 RBI's, with Plummer having been on a torrid pace since being called up.

Plummer said of his strong play so far that "It's awesome, Cisco made sure that I turned around. It’s great. This is what you envision, coming over here, being part of this club and ultimately coming out with a win."

Josh Bell got the Nationals ahead first, with a two run single followed by a sac fly from Lane Thomas, making it 3-0 Nationals after the top of the first inning. In the bottom half, the Mets grabbed two runs to make it 3-2. In the second inning, Plummer hit an RBI double, Luis Guillorme hit an RBI single, and Marte hit a two run home run to make it 6-3 Mets.

In the 3rd inning, Marte hit a two run single, followed by an RBI single from Francisco Lindor, making it a 9-3 lead for the Mets. In the 4th, Plummer blasted a 3 run home run to make it a 12-3 game, his second home run of the season.

In the 5th inning, an RBI single from Bell cut the Nationals deficit to 12-4 at that point. One inning later, Cesar Hernandez added an RBI single of his own to make it a 12-5 game. In the 8th inning, Pete Alonso whacked a solo home run, widening the Mets lead to 13-5, sealing up the win to start the series.

Lindor said of the Mets hot start that "As long as we understand that today’s today, tomorrow’s tomorrow, I think we’ll be fine. Nobody’s looking forward. Nobody’s looking to August, September. Everybody’s focused on what we have today. And, ultimately, that’s what matters. The front office did a great job of hiring professional baseball players, like, legit, professional baseball players. And when you have that, good things happen."

David Petersen got the start for the Mets, allowing 4 runs on 6 hits over 4 2/3 innings pitched, getting a no decision. Colin Holderman got the win in relief, throwing 1 1/3 innings of one run ball. Chasen Shreve fired a scoreless inning, followed by two shutout innings from Stephen Nogosek to finish the win.

Erick Fedde got the loss for the Nationals, allowing 6 runs on 8 hits in 1 1/3 innings before leaving injured. A bullpen combo of Andres Machado, Austin Voth, Paolo Espino, and Josh Rogers all came out of the bullpen in relief of the injured Fedde.

After the game, Fedde said of his injury that "It lets the whole team down, if anything. If you’re able to at least go six and give up a bunch of runs, you put the team in a better position going forward. But today’s just really unacceptable in a sense, and I feel bad for the guys in the bullpen. I put them behind the eight ball probably for the next week or so."

Up next, the Mets and Nationals continue their series on Tuesday night, with the Mets sending Trevor Williams to the mound for the start, while Patrick Corbin starts for the Nationals.
