Sometimes, all you need is a couple hitters on their game to push enough runs across. Amed Rosario drove in two runs, Jose Ramirez homered, and the Cleveland Guardians defeated the Detroit Tigers with a 6-1 victory on Friday night in Cleveland.

After having lost 3 straight games, the Guardians were looking to bounce back against the division foe Tigers. Bounce back they did, riding the contributions of Rosario and Ramirez on the hitting side, and effectiveness on the pitching side to a win, maintaining 3rd place in the AL Central.

Ramirez said after the game that "There was a chance I couldn’t go when I arrived at the ballpark, but I found a way to play. It was a great night for our team and our fans. It’s real exciting to hear their cheers and noises. It was electric in the ballpark tonight."

The first 5 innings went scoreless, with the Guardians starting the scoring in the 6th inning. Rosario got it started, scoring Austin Hedges on an RBI single. Ramirez punctuated a 4 run inning with a 3 run home run, making it a 4-0 lead for the Guardians.

Quickly after that, Spencer Torkelson got the Tigers on the board, cutting the deficit to 4-1 with a sac fly that scored Javier Baez. In the 8th inning, Rosario got that run back for the Guardians, with an RBI double that scored Myles Straw to make it 5-1 Guardians. Rosario then scored on a sac fly from Owen Miller, making it a 6-1 game.

Guardians acting manager Demarlo Hale said of using Ramirez that "We had a few lineups. He wants to play. We trust him to ask him how he feels. He's earned that right. He's played long enough that he can tell us and be very truthful that I feel good enough to play third base or I need another day."

Getting the start and the win for the Guardians was Aaron Civale, improving to 2-3 this season. Civale allowed just one run on 3 hits and one walk over 6 2/3 innings in his latest start. Enyel De Los Santos came on in relief, adding 1 2/3 shutout innings. Emmanuel Clase shut things down in the 9th with a scoreless inning.

Tarik Skubal started and got a no decision for the Tigers, pitching 5 shutout innings before leaving injured. It was Jacob Barnes who got the loss, allowing 4 runs on 4 hits in his one inning of work. Jason Foley then added 1 1/3 innings of relief, followed by 2/3 of an inning from Drew Carlton.

Skubal said of his injury that "It feels like I got hit in the leg by a comebacker, but other than that, I feel good. I’m going to take it day by day, but I’m very optimistic. With what happened and where I got hit, I feel pretty good and I’ll do everything I can to prepare to start in five days."

Up next, the Guardians and Tigers continue their series on Saturday afternoon. Cleveland sends Shane Bieber to the mound, while Alex Faedo starts for the Tigers.
