Turner and Buehler key Dodgers win

If the Los Angeles Dodgers keep playing like this, everyone's in trouble. Justin Turner homered, Freddie Freeman and Gavin Lux had run scoring singles, and the Dodgers defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks with a 5-3 victory on Wednesday afternoon in Los Angeles.

Thanks to contributions from up and down the lineup, most importantly Freeman and Lux, the Dodgers picked up their 5th straight win to conclude their 8 game homestand, sweeping the 4 game series with the Diamondbacks. A big reason why has been a Dodgers lineup that has done their job lately.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said of the lineup production that "This is the first time we've seen it. Freddie has been consistent all year, but I think he’s even ramped it up another notch. Having Mookie playing the way he’s been playing the last week, and I think Trea has been going well for 10 days. To see what those guys are doing at the top, is pretty special."

The Dodgers got on the board immediately, with Freeman hitting an RBI single in the first inning, making it 1-0 Dodgers as Mookie Betts scored. In the second inning, Josh Rojas scored on a groundout for the D-Backs, tying the game 1-1. In the 3rd, Pavin Smith grounded out, scoring Daulton Varsho to put the D-Backs ahead 2-1.

In the 4th inning, the Dodgers took back control, with Turner blasting a 3 run home run to left field, clearing the bases to make it a 4-2 Dodgers lead. Lux then singled home Cody Bellinger to make it 5-2 Dodgers. In the 7th inning, Smith singled home Varsho to cut the deficit to 5-3, but the D-Backs couldn't score again.

When asked about his home run after the game, Turner said that "It certainly helps to have all those guys in front of you who are great hitters, and it feels like they get on base every single time. It’s a lot more fun to go up and hit when guys are out there."

Getting the win for the Dodgers was Walker Buehler. Improving to 5-1 this season, Buehler allowed two runs on 6 hits over 5 innings pitched. Justin Bruihl came on and threw a shutout 6th inning, followed by 2/3 of an inning from Brusdar Graterol, 1 1/3 innings from David Price, and a shutout 9th from Daniel Hudson to get the save, his second of the season.

Falling to 2-2 on the season was Zach Davies, taking the loss for the D-Backs. Davies allowed 5 runs on 7 hits over 4 innings. After Davies left, Joe Mantiply, Ian Kennedy, Noe Ramirez, and Mark Melancon held the Dodgers offense scoreless.

Rojas said of being swept by the Dodgers that "Every team you face is a Major League team, but this lineup that you face, there’s no time to take a breath. You’ve got one through nine are all extremely good hitters, and you have to be locked in for every pitch."

Up next, the D-Backs are back in action with a Thursday night contest against the Chicago Cubs, with Zac Gallen to get the start. Julio Urias starts for the Dodgers when they start a road series with the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday night.
