Giddy up, the Pittsburgh Pirates are a sneaky good team. Diego Castillo drove in two runs, Jake Marisnick homered, and the Pirates defeated the Miami Marlins with a 5-1 victory on Monday night in Miami.

Entering the series against the Marlins fresh off two straight wins and a series win against the Milwaukee Brewers, the Pirates picked up their 3rd straight win and 6th in their last 10 games. This time around, they were aided by the return of Marisnick, who had been out since undergoing thumb surgery in early May.

Marisnick said of his time off that "It’s a reset button, you don’t really know how you’re feeling before so you come back with a reset and you go from there. It takes a long time to have a good year. You have to string them together, do it for a long time and keep that feel. But getting results early is great."

The Pirates got on the board early in this one. With two runners on base in the first inning, Castillo singled into center field, scoring two and making it a 2-0 Pirates lead. One inning later, Marisnick scored on an RBI double from Kevin Newman to make it a 3-0 game.

It stayed that way until the 6th inning, when the Marlins got themselves on the board. Avisail Garcia singled into left field, scoring Garrett Cooper and making it 3-1. That was intact until the 9th inning, when Marisnick slapped a two run home run to left field, making it a 5-1 score and a 5-1 win for the Pirates.

Starting for the Pirates was Mitch Keller, who was able to complete 7 innings for the first time in his career. Keller allowed one run on 5 hits, striking out 5 hitters to get the win. Chase De Jong came on and got two outs, before Yerry De Los Santos got the final 4 outs to seal the win.

Keller said of pitching 7 innings that "It feels really good. They let me go back out there in the seventh, and the only thing on my mind was getting through that, no matter what. That's what starting pitchers want to do. They want to go as deep as they can into games. I'm glad I was able to go seven for us tonight."

Trevor Rogers got the start for the Marlins, getting the loss after being charged with 3 runs on 6 hits over 5 1/3 innings of work. Zach Pop was first out of the bullpen, pitching 1 2/3 shutout innings. Richard Bleier pitched one inning, and Jimmy Yacabonis allowed two runs in one inning of work.

Marlins manager Don Mattingly said that "There are some natural pitfalls in your schedule that happen, human-nature wise. But that's just something that you fight, and you have to fight, but it happens for everybody. Every team has different sections like that. You have to get ready to play, and you've got to try to win. You've got to find a way to win a game, and that's where we're at, and that's where we'll stay. We have to find ways to win games every night."

Up next, the Pirates and Marlins continue their series on Tuesday night. The Pirates send Chris Stratton to the mound, while Daniel Castano starts for the Marlins.
