Who would have guessed that this season, the Baltimore Orioles would be playing some good baseball? Adley Rutschman homered, Ryan Mountcastle drove in two runs, and the Orioles defeated the Los Angeles Angels with a 4-1 victory on Thursday night in Baltimore.

Thanks to the contributions of Rutschman and Mountcastle, combining for 3 of the Orioles 4 runs, the Orioles saw themselves pick up another win. It's their 5th straight win, and they are 6-4 in their last 10 games. The Orioles picked up their 40th win of the season, and are just 4 games under .500 entering play on Friday.

Rutschman said of the Orioles recent run of success that "I haven't been in the big leagues for that long, but what I do know is this team comes out to compete every single day, and guys go and do their work and they work on getting better. I think that in itself speaks volumes."

Starting the scoring was Rutschman, who gave the Orioles a 1-0 lead with a solo home run in the second inning, with a shot into right field. In the 3rd inning, Ryan Mountcastle doubled into center field, scoring another run and making it a 2-0 game, with Anthony Santander coming around to score the run.

In the 5th inning, the Orioles kept going, with Trey Mancini hitting an RBI single into right field, scoring Jorge Mateo and making it a 3-0 lead. Cedric Mullins then scored on a sac fly from Mountcastle to make it 4-0. The Angels got one back on a sac fly from Kurt Suzuki in the 7th inning, which made the score 4-1.

Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said of Rutschman's homer that it was a "Huge hit, and guys were pumped for him. A great swing, and sure it felt good to get to do it the first time in front of the home fans. First of many to come."

Getting the start for the Orioles was Jordan Lyles, who pitched 6 full innings and pitched into the 7th, allowing one run before being lifted. Lyles picked up the win before Joey Krehbiel finished off the 7th inning. Cionel Perez pitched a scoreless 8th inning, and Jorge Lopez picked up the save.

Rookie Chase Silseth got the start for the Angels, allowing 4 runs on 6 hits across 4 full innings, taking the loss to fall to 1-3. Andrew Wantz came in and pitched one inning, followed by relief appearances from Jose Marte, Elvis Peguero, and Aaron Loup.

Silseth said of his rocky start that "I got to 0-2 a lot and then ended up going 2-2, 3-2, so it’s about execution where sometimes I try to make my stuff better than I need to. It’s a mentality. You have to have a short memory in this game and maybe I’m not having a great short memory. Just got to keep trying to get better, because I want to be good and help the team win. I have to keep grinding until I do."

Up next, the Orioles and Angels continue their series on Friday night. Tyler Wells gets the start for the Orioles, while rookie Reid Detmers goes for the Angels.
