At the end of the day, a longtime Baltimore Oriole is out the door. The Houston Astros have acquired 1B/OF/DH Trey Mancini from the Baltimore Orioles as part of a 3 team trade with the Tampa Bay Rays, according to Dan Connolly of The Athletic.

As part of the full trade, the Astros get Mancini from the Orioles and RHP Jayden Murray from the Rays. The Orioles get RHP Seth Johnson from the Astros and RHP Chayce McDermott from the Rays, and the Rays get OF Jose Siri from the Astros.

Mancini quickly became a fan favorite in Baltimore, having been an Oriole for his entire career after being drafted in 2013 out of Notre Dame. He overcame a diagnosis of stage 3 colon cancer, which forced him to miss the entire 2020 season, and won the 2021 AL Comeback Player of the year after recovering and returning to the field.

Asked about joining the Astros, Mancini said that "They've had such a consistently good team for a lot of years, and they're having another great year this year. So I'm excited to be a part of it and. Yeah, it's crazy. But yeah, like I said, wasn't expecting anything to happen today. So I'm still just kind of taking it all in. But definitely excited to see what the rest of this year holds in Houston."

So far with the Orioles this season, Mancini has a .268 batting average with a .751 OPS, hitting 10 home runs to go with 41 RBI's, adding a .404 slugging percentage and .347 on base percentage in 92 games this season. Mancini's last at bat at Camden Yards with the Orioles sure was memorable.

Also heading back to Houston is Murray, a righty starting pitcher. This season with Double A Montgomery and Triple A Durham, Murray has a 8-3 record with a 3.24 ERA and 1.19 WHIP, striking out 73 hitters over 80 2/3 innings, making 16 starts and one relief appearance, with most of his time having been at Double A this season.

The only player going to the Rays is Siri, who has rookie status for the rest of the season. This year with the Astros, Siri has a .178 batting average with a .542 OPS and .304 slugging percentage, with 3 home runs and 10 RBI's to go with 6 stolen bases in 48 games, bouncing back and forth between the majors and Triple A Sugar Land.

Coming to the Orioles from Houston is McDermott, the 12th ranked prospect in the Astros system according to MLB Pipeline. With High A Asheville this season, McDermott has a 6-1 record with a 5.50 ERA and 1.38 WHIP, throwing 72 innings across 10 starts and 9 relief appearances.

From the Rays, the Orioles get Johnson, a starter who is set to undergo Tommy John surgery this week. Before he got hurt, Johnson posted a 1-1 record with a 3.00 ERA and 1.25 WHIP, throwing 27 innings in 7 starts for High A Bowling Green this season.

After this trade, the Astros get a backup first baseman and occasional outfielder in Mancini, who is still a pretty good hitter and figures to be a good boost to an already good lineup. The Rays get a talented young center fielder under control for the foreseeable future, while the Orioles get a pair of young and highly rated pitchers as their rebuild seems to be nearing the end.
