Hopefully, this game is the start of something better to come in Philadelphia. Bryson Stott homered, Nick Castellanos brought in two runs, and the Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Cincinnati Reds with a 4-1 victory on Monday night in Philadelphia.

Coming into the game skidding, the Phillies seemingly got themselves on track. Despite the skid, the Phillies jumped ahead to the second wild card spot in the NL with this win, even after winning just their 4th out of 10 games. The Phillies hope this is the start of a turnaround.

Castellanos said of the bounce back win at home that "It puts us right back on track. These are games that we’re supposed to win. We’ve done a really good job all year of winning games that we’re supposed to win. All those games add up. And just to put to bed a tough series against a really good baseball team."

After the first inning went scoreless, Castellanos got the Phillies on the board. He cranked a solo home run to center field, putting the Phillies ahead 1-0. Shortly after that, Stott added a home run of his own, doubling the lead to 2-0 in favor of the Phillies.

One inning later, in the 3rd inning, Castellanos extended the Phillies lead. He doubled into right field, bringing home JT Realmuto to make the lead 3-0. In the top of the 5th, Austin Romine got the Reds on the board, cranking a solo home run to make it a 3-1 ballgame. Realmuto hit an RBI double into right center field, making it a 4-1 score.

Getting the start for the Phillies was Noah Syndergaard, who got the win to stay undefeated with the Phillies. Syndergaard allowed one run on 3 hits and two walks, throwing 7 strong innings. Sam Coonrod came out of the bullpen and fired a scoreless 8th, and Andrew Bellatti got the save in the 9th inning.

Romine said of Syndergaard that "He moves the ball. He’s got a good sinker in. He uses his curveball and his slider well. He knows how to pitch. He’s been around the block, so he knows how to use his stuff, get guys out and get weak contact."

It was Luis Cessa who started for the Reds, his first start of the season. Cessa pitched the first two innings in a bullpen game. After that, a bullpen chorus of Joel Kuhnel, Art Warren, Ross Detwiler, and Hunter Strickland also pitching.

Up next, the Phillies and Reds continue their series on Tuesday night. Ranger Suarez takes the mound to start for the Phillies, while Nick Lodolo draws the start for the Reds.
