Needing to stop a skid, the San Francisco Giants got a timely series against a struggling team. LaMonte Wade Jr homered, JD Davis added a homer, and the Giants defeated the Oakland Athletics with a 7-3 victory on Saturday night in Oakland.

Entering the series after being swept in 4 games by their archrivals in the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Giants took out their frustrations with the long ball, driving in 4 of the 7 runs they scored via the home run. Wade, Davis, and Joey Bart went yard for the Giants, who won for just the 4th time in 10 games.

The Giants are also experiencing a larger skid then just the last 10 games. With this win, they have won for just the 4th time in 16 games out of the all star break, sitting 3 games under .500 this season. The 7 runs scored are the most by the Giants offense since a 9-5 win over the Milwaukee Brewers just before the all star break.

Giants manager Gabe Kapler said after the game that "I don’t think there’s any question that when our lineup is kind of deep and healthier, it feels like we have a chance to put runs on the board. These are the guys that we’re going to need to perform if we’re going to the postseason. And it’s going to need to be a lot of consistent and especially good performance. That’s what we saw today."

Brandon Crawford started the scoring for the Giants, drawing a bases loaded walk in the first inning. One inning later, Joc Pederson added a single up the middle, scoring Wade to make the Giants lead 2-0 after two innings. In the 3rd, Sean Murphy added an RBI single to get the A's on the board, making it a 2-1 game.

When the 6th inning came around, a two run homer by Wade, followed by a solo shot from Davis, made it a 5-1 lead. Brandon Belt added an RBI single to make it a 6-1 game for the Giants. In the 7th, Bart hit a towering solo shot to left center field, making it a 7-1 score. Skye Bolt homered in the bottom of the 9th for Oakland, cutting it to 7-3, but that was all for the A's.

After the game, Wade said that "It felt good to do something today. A good team win. We’re starting to click a little bit on both sides of the ball. We’ve got some guys who were hurt doing some big things, so it always helps getting those guys back. Anytime we’re at full health, I think we’re pretty good."

It was Carlos Rodon who started for the Giants, allowing one run on 5 hits, lasting 5 1/3 innings. Tyler Rogers came on and finished the 6th inning, before Yunior Marte pitched the 7th, and Jarlin Garcia handled the final two innings to seal the deal on the Giants win.

Getting the start for the A's was Adam Oller, who was charged with 4 runs on 8 hits over 5 innings pitched. Kirby Snead allowed 3 runs over two innings pitched, before Austin Pruitt and Sam Selman threw scoreless innings at the end of the game.

Oller said of his latest outing that "I did a good job of getting 0-2 and 1-2 on a lot of guys. I just didn’t have the putaway pitch. My breaking ball was all over the place, which makes things tough, especially in big situations where you need to put a guy away. I had a lot of opportunities to put guys away, and didn’t."

Up next, the Giants and A's conclude their series on Sunday. Logan Webb gets the start for the Giants, while Adrian Martinez gets the ball for Oakland.
