Sometimes in baseball, talent doesn't win the day, it can be a good showing at the right time. Jace Peterson drove in two runs, Victor Caratini homered, and the Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Colorado Rockies with a 6-4 victory on Monday afternoon in Denver.

Thanks to a combined 5 RBI's from Peterson and Caratini, the Brewers were able to win their 6th out of 10 games, and took the series opener against the Rockies. Entering play on Tuesday, they sit two games back of the San Diego Padres for the final NL Wild Card spot with a 71-63 record.

Brewers manager Craig Counsell said of Caratini's big hit that "Three-run homers change games, and Vic’s homer changed the game today, absolutely. To be down 3-0 right away and then just pitch really well and score a bunch of unanswered runs, a good team win again."

Starting the scoring was Charlie Blackmon for the Rockies. With the bases loaded in the first inning, Blackmon singled home two runs, putting the Rockies ahead 2-0 early. Garrett Hampson brought home another run, making it 3-0 on a sac fly. In the 4th inning, an RBI single from Andrew McCutchen and an RBI double from Peterson got the Brewers on the board and made it a 3-2 game.

When the 6th inning came, the Brewers took the lead for good. It was Peterson who started it, tying the game 3-3 thanks to a sac fly. Caratini then hit a 3 run home run to right field, putting the Brewers ahead by a 6-3 score. CJ Cron homered in the 8th for the Rockies to cut the deficit to 6-4, but the damage was already done.

Getting the series opening start for the Brewers was Adrian Houser. He worked 5 innings, allowing 3 runs on two hits and two walks, picking up the win. Brad Boxberger and Matt Bush each worked an inning each, followed by Taylor Rogers in the 8th, and Devin Williams getting the save in the 9th.

Asked about his start, Houser said that "In the first, my stuff was there, I just wasn't able to get my direction right. I was pulling off on some pitches and wasn't able to get them in the zone like I wanted to. I was able to reset after getting out of that and kind of get my direction right and get a lot of ground balls."

Coming off a tough east coast road trip, Ryan Feltner started for the Rockies. Feltner allowed 4 runs on 5 hits over 5 1/3 innings pitched. Justin Lawrence allowed two runs in 2/3 of an inning. Jake Bird then threw two scoreless innings, and Alex Colome pitched one.

Cron, the Rockies first baseman, said of the road trip that "It wasn't the best road trip. It was probably the best week of pitching we’ve seen. Those two staffs are pretty darn good. That’s just baseball. We went to the East Coast for 10 games and, unfortunately, it didn’t go how we wanted."

Up next, the Brewers and Rockies continue their series on Tuesday night. The Brewers will start Brandon Woodruff, while Chad Kuhl gets the start for the Rockies.
