Sometimes in baseball, breakdowns can happen at the most untimely of moments. Lewin Diaz homered, Joey Wendle homered and scored the game winning run, and the Miami Marlins rallied to defeat the Philadelphia Phillies with a 6-5 victory on Thursday night in Philadelphia.

Trailing 5-4 entering the 9th inning, the Marlins had some hits and a key error, getting a break and picking up the series finale win. The win snapped the Marlins 9 game losing streak, their record now sitting at a 56-80 mark on the season.

Starting the scoring in the top of the 3rd inning was Diaz, who gave the Marlins a 1-0 lead with a solo home run to right field. Jon Berti then scored on a double from Garrett Cooper, doubling the lead to 2-0. Cooper scored on an Avisail Garcia to make it a 3-0 game. Nick Maton answered for the Phillies with a solo homer in the bottom of the inning to make it a 3-1 score.

In the 4th inning, an RBI groundout from JT Realmuto and an RBI double from Bryson Stott tied the game at a 3-3 mark. In the 5th, a solo home run from Wendle, followed by two run double from Alec Bohm, put the Phillies ahead 5-4. In the 9th, a fielding error from Rhys Hoskins scored the game tying run, and Brian Anderson hit an RBI single to make it a 6-5 lead for the Marlins.

Picking up the start for the Marlins was Sandy Alcantara, who wasn't at the top of his game. Alcantara allowed 5 runs on 8 hits, striking out 7 hitters in 6 innings pitched. Richard Bleier came on in relief and pitched a scoreless 7th, with Dylan Floro getting the win with two shutout innings to close out the game.

Alcantara talked about his start briefly, saying after the game that "You feel good because we won, but tonight wasn’t my night. But I was able to fight through it."

It was Kyle Gibson who started for the Phillies, allowing 4 runs on 9 hits and one walk over 5 innings of work. Vinny Nittoli, Sam Coonrod, and Brad Hand each had scoreless innings of relief, but David Robertson blew his 7th save and got the loss while pitching the 9th inning.

Robertson talked about his latest implosion, saying that "I feel good. My velo might be down a tick. I’m not looking up at the board. It feels good coming out of my hand. I feel like it’s one of those days where I didn’t get the job done. I just didn’t make enough good pitches."

Up next, the Marlins start a weekend series with the New York Mets on Friday night, with Edward Cabrera to get the series opening start. The Phillies square off against the Washington Nationals on Friday, with Noah Syndergaard lined up to start.
