Series tied 1-1
Somehow, someway, they keep finding ways to pull off wins. Amed Rosario homered, Oscar Gonzalez drove in the game winning run, and the Cleveland Guardians defeated the New York Yankees with a 4-2 victory on Friday afternoon in the Bronx.

The Guardians entered game two looking to punch back at the Yankees, after getting punched to a game one loss. As has been usual all season, they didn't score very many runs, but they didn't have to, the pitching staff of the Guardians kept them in it all game long.

Guardians first baseman Josh Naylor said of their approach that "We just try to find a way on base. If it’s a bloop hit, it’s a bloop hit. If it’s a hard-hit single, double, whatever the case it, we just try to hustle, try to make things happen on the field, try to put pressure on the defense."

Giancarlo Stanton got the Yankees off to a hot start, hitting an opposite field two run home run to right field in the first inning to make it 2-0 Yankees right off the bat. In the 4th inning, Andres Gimenez got the Guardians on the board, singling to right field, plating Naylor to make the score 2-1 in favor of the Yankees.

One inning later, in the 5th, Rosario tied the game for the Guardians, hitting a solo home run to center field to make it a 2-2 game. There would be no more scoring until the 10th inning, when Gonzalez singled home Jose Ramirez to put the Guardians ahead 3-2. Gonzalez then scored on a Naylor double to make it a 4-2 game.

Guardians manager Terry Francona said of the win after the game that "We seem to have played in a lot of games where that's the outcome. It's not an easy way to win, but it doesn't mean you can't. I kind of enjoyed today because we hung around. And I kept thinking, ‘We are going to find a way.'"

It was Shane Bieber on the mound for the Guardians, who had a strong game in a no decision. Bieber was charged with two runs on 5 hits and 3 walks over 5 2/3 innings pitched. Trevor Stephan pitched the next 1 1/3 innings, before James Karinchak got two outs. Emmanuel Clase came on and delivered 2 1/3 innings to seal the win.

Nestor Cortes got the start for the Yankees, allowing two runs on 6 hits in 5 innings pitched. Lou Trivino got two outs in the 6th before Jonathan Loaisiga pitched 1 2/3 innings. Wandy Peralta, Clay Holmes, Jameson Taillon, and Clarke Schmidt also pitched out of the bullpen.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said after the game that "We never thought this was going to be easy. We'll get on that plane and go try to grab one tomorrow. Nothing changes for us. Nothing’s been easy for us this year, especially in the second half of the season."

Up next, the series shifts to Cleveland for games 3 and 4, with game 3 on Saturday night. Both teams look for a 2-1 series lead, with Triston McKenzie starting for the Guardians and Luis Severino going for the Yankees.
