The kings of the managerial castle have been crowned once again. Cleveland Guardians manager Terry Francona and New York Mets manager Buck Showalter were named the 2022 AL and NL manager of the year, according to an announcement by the BBWAA on Tuesday.

Francona wins the award for the 3rd time in his managerial career, becoming the 9th manager in baseball history to win the award at least 3 times. He's also the 3rd manager in baseball history to win manager of the year 3 times with the same team, joining Bobby Cox and Dusty Baker.

In the voting, Francona took home 17 first place votes and 9 second place votes for 112 points. Baltimore Orioles manager Brandon Hyde took second place with 9 votes for first and second, along with 7 votes for 3rd place. Seattle Mariners manager Scott Servais came in 3rd with 43 total points. Down ballot votes went to Baker, Aaron Boone, and Kevin Cash.

Francona was in the dugout for the Guardians, the youngest team in baseball this season, and guided them to 92 wins, an AL Central title, and an ALDS appearance, They pushed the New York Yankees to all 5 games in the ALDS and won their first division title since 2018.

On the NL side, Showalter collected 8 first place votes, 10 second place votes, and 7 3rd place votes for 77 total points. Dave Roberts was 20 points behind him in second place, collecting 8 first place votes, 4 second place votes, and 5 for 3rd place. That was two points ahead of Brian Snitker, who came in 3rd with 7 first place votes and 5 for both second and 3rd.

The win for Showalter marks the first time he's won the honor in the NL, but the 4th time he's done so in his career. He's the 3rd manager ever to win 4 times and is the first to win it with 4 different teams. He also becomes the first Mets manager to take home the award since it was introduced in 1983. Now the Milwaukee Brewers are the only franchise without a manager winning the award.

Showalter becomes the 8th manager to win the award in both leagues thanks to how he helped turn the Mets around. He led the Mets to the playoffs for the first time since 2016, helping them to a 101-61 record, the Mets highest regular season win total in 34 years.
