Looking to compensate for lost pieces, Chavez Ravine is getting some more power. The Los Angeles Dodgers and DH JD Martinez have agreed to a one year, $10 million deal, according to Robert Murray of FanSided. The Dodgers have confirmed the news.

After Cody Bellinger and Trea Turner, among others, departed in free agency this offseason, the Dodgers were looking for an influx of power. Martinez provides that, just one season removed from a 28 homer year in 2021.

Last season was Martinez's 5th season with the Boston Red Sox. He ended the season with a .274 batting average, .341 on base percentage, and .790 OPS, adding 16 home runs and 62 RBI's to go with 43 doubles in 139 games played.

The start of 2022 was a hot one for Martinez, earning an all star game selection, his 4th with the Red Sox. However, there was a visible drop off in the second half of the year, resulting in Martinez's on base numbers and average dropping. He remained a dangerous hitter against lefty pitchers, posting a .998 OPS over the season.

Martinez won't get much playing time in the field, being used exclusively as a DH last season by the Red Sox. Prior to that, Martinez has only played 137 games in the outfield since 2018, with his defense being a liability more often than not, thanks to posting -12 outs above average in that timespan. Martinez helped the Red Sox beat the Dodgers in the 2018 World Series.

In his career, Martinez has 12 major league seasons with 4 different teams. Over that time, he has racked up a .288 batting average, .520 slugging percentage, and .352 on base percentage, blasting 282 home runs with 899 RBI's and 339 doubles in 1,409 games. Martinez has a .303 batting average with 30 RBI's and 9 home runs in 30 career playoff games.

The move to add Martinez makes him the second notable addition of the offseason, joining Clayton Kershaw's new deal. So far, the Dodgers have seen Cody Bellinger, Trea Turner, Tommy Kahnle, and Tyler Anderson sign elsewhere, with Justin Turner still a free agent.
