Another day, another New York Mets transaction. The Mets and OF Brandon Nimmo have agreed to a 8 year, $162 million deal, according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post. The Mets have officially confirmed the move.

The first round of the 2011 draft saw the Mets draft Nimmo, and he's been a Met ever since. After hitting the open market, rumors swirled about him leaving the only organization he had ever played for, but he's ultimately back in the fold. The deal for Nimmo also contains a no trade clause for all 8 seasons, locking him up through the 2030 season.

Nimmo exceeded 100 games for just the second time in his career in 2022. He had strong numbers, putting together a .274 batting average, .433 slugging percentage, and .800 OPS, hitting 16 home runs to go with 64 RBI's in 151 games, a career high. He accounted for a 5.1 WAR as well.

In the last 5 seasons, Nimmo is tied for 16th among qualified outfielders in OPS+, with a 134 OPS+. The only regular center fielder in the group with a higher number than Nimmo is Mike Trout. Nimmo posted 6 outs above average defensively, playing all 151 games in center field.

Nimmo has spent 7 seasons in the majors, every one of them in a Mets uniform. In that time, he has a .269 career batting average, .385 on base percentage, and .441 slugging percentage, adding 213 RBI's and 63 home runs to go with 23 stolen bases in 608 games. He has a .333 batting average with one RBI in 3 career playoff games.

The biggest problem in Nimmo's career has not been production, rather, it's been injuries. He's only exceeded 100 games played in 2018 and 2022. He played 32 games in 2016, 69 in 2017 and 2019, 92 in 2021, and 55 of 60 games in 2021. When he's healthy, he's a dynamic player in the Mets outfield and lineup.

So far this offseason, the Mets have lost Jacob deGrom and Chris Bassitt, while replacing them with Justin Verlander and Jose Quintana. They have also re-signed Nimmo and Edwin Diaz to try and replicate their 101 win season in 2022.
