Here's a reliever that's now going to be able to play on both sides of the Subway Series. The New York Mets and RHP David Robertson have agreed to a one year, $10 million deal, according to Jeff Passan of ESPN. The Mets have officially confirmed.

With setup man Adam Ottavino still on the free agent market, the Mets were looking for a setup man, and along came Robertson. He stands likely to be the top setup option ahead of closer Edwin Diaz and also has the ability to be the closer if the situation arises. He returned to his old form in 2022 and now gets a decent payday from the Mets.

In his first full season after Tommy John Surgery, Robertson posted a 2.40 ERA, 3.58 FIP, and 1.16 WHIP, throwing 63 2/3 innings and picking up 20 saves in 58 appearances split between the Chicago Cubs and Philadelphia Phillies. He had a 1.17 ERA and one save in 8 appearances in the playoffs for the Phillies.

Mets GM Billy Eppler said of the signing that "We’re very excited to add a pitcher of David’s caliber to our bullpen. He has been pitching in high-leverage situations for teams with Postseason expectations since his career started."

The 2011 season has been the only All Star game selection for Robertson, posting a 1.08 ERA and 1.13 WHIP in 66 2/3 innings that season. He received some down ballot consideration for the AL Cy Young, finishing in 11th place in the voting, while ending in 22nd in the AL MVP race.

Robertson has 14 big league seasons under his belt with 5 different teams. In that time, he has a 2.92 FIP, 2.89 ERA, and 1.16 WHIP, notching 157 saves in one start and 730 relief appearances, totaling 739 1/3 innings pitched. He has a 2.78 ERA and 1.13 WHIP in 45 1/3 innings in the playoffs, getting one save in 41 appearances.

The Mets bullpen picture as things currently stand includes Diaz and Robertson, with Eliser Hernandez, Jeff Brigham, Brooks Raley, Drew Smith, Stephen Ridings, and one of David Peterson or Tylor Megill likely to be included as well.
