More additions in Philly, you heard me right, more. The Philadelphia Phillies and LHP Matt Strahm have agreed to a two year, $15 million deal, according to an announcement by the Phillies on Friday afternoon.

After falling short in the World Series at the hands of the Houston Astros, the Phillies have made several moves to beef up the roster in an attempt to not fall short again last season. The signing of Strahm is the latest move to do so, and it's for two years, not a standard one year reliever contract.

Strahm said of signing with the Phillies that "Philly didn't give many people a chance. They made it look sweet, and you can’t argue with that team. I’m at a point in my career where winning is everything. I did the rebuild thing in San Diego. I want to be on a team that’s ready to compete. You can’t argue with what the Phillies have done."

Last season was spent in a Boston Red Sox uniform for Strahm. He posted solid numbers, ending the year with a 1.23 WHIP, 3.72 FIP, and 3.83 ERA, tossing 44 2/3 innings over 50 relief appearances, striking out 52 hitters.

The 52 strikeouts for Strahm gave him a 26.9 percent strikeout rate, his best in a season since 28.2 percent in 2018. His 17 walks were good for a 8.8 percent walk rate, the highest mark for Strahm since a 14.3 percent rating in 2017.

Strahm has 7 seasons with the Kansas City Royals, San Diego Padres, and Red Sox under his major league belt. In that time, he has a 3.81 ERA, 4.03 FIP, and 1.21 WHIP, fanning 325 hitters to 98 walks in 304 2/3 innings pitched, making 25 starts and 182 relief appearances. Strahm has a career 11.57 ERA in 4 relief appearances in the postseason, totaling 2 1/3 innings.

The signing of Strahm pairs him with Jose Alvarado as the top two left handed relievers in the Phillies bullpen come opening day. He joins Taijuan Walker and Trea Turner as marquee free agent signings so far this offseason.
