A playoff anomaly in Milwaukee is returning to town. The Milwaukee Brewers and LHP Wade Miley have agreed to a one year, $4.5 million deal, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. The Brewers have confirmed the news.

Miley previously donned a Brewers uniform in the 2018 season, giving his career new life in a 16 start season. He made 4 starts that postseason, which include 3 starts in the NLCS against the Los Angeles Dodgers. After starting game two, he came out to start game 5, then departed after just one batter, fully healthy. One game later, he was on the rubber for game 6, pitching into the 5th inning.

Since his stint in Milwaukee, Miley has played for the Houston Astros, Cincinnati Reds, and Chicago Cubs, playing for the Reds in 2020 and 2021. This will be Miley's 4th straight year pitching in the NL Central, for his 3rd different team.

Miley suited up for the Cubs last season, missing a good deal of time with elbow and shoulder injuries. When he did pitch, Miley posted a 1.22 WHIP, 3.95 FIP, and 3.16 ERA, throwing 37 innings over 8 starts and one relief appearance for the Cubs.

Overall, Miley has played for 8 different teams in 12 major league seasons, including the Brewers. He has amassed a 4.13 ERA, 4.10 FIP, and 1.38 WHIP, throwing 1,618 innings and 3 complete games in 285 starts and 7 relief appearances. Miley has a 2.08 ERA in 4 starts and one relief appearance in the playoffs, totaling 17 1/3 innings.

Miley is set to make $3.5 million in salary this season, with his deal containing an option for the 2024 season. That option is $10 million with a $1 million buyout, guaranteeing Miley $4.5 million in the 2023 season. He gets a $150,000 bonus for throwing 75 innings, $350,000 for 100 innings, $500,000 for 125 innings, and $500,000 again for 150 innings pitched.

The addition of Miley marks just the second major league contract the Brewers have signed a player to this offseason, with Blake Perkins being the other one, an outfielder who has yet to play in the majors. The Brewers also claimed pitcher Bryse Wilson off waivers from the Pittsburgh Pirates.
