Coming off a great year, he got a pay raise. The Los Angeles Dodgers and RHP Tony Gonsolin have agreed to a two year, $6.65 million contract extension, according to Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic. The Dodgers have confirmed the news.

By signing Gonsolin, the Dodgers have now avoided arbitration with all of their arbitration eligible players this offseason. There are $500,000 in bonuses for multiple games started marks in 2023 for Gonsolin, and there are incentives available for Cy Young voting placements. He'll make $3.25 million in 2023 and $3.4 million in 2024.

Last season, Gonsolin made his first All Star Game with a breakout season. Gonsolin ended the season with a 0.88 WHIP, 2.14 ERA, and 3.28 FIP, striking out 119 hitters over 130 1/3 innings pitched, making 24 starts in 2022.

One thing that has been bugging Gonsolin throughout his career in the majors has been injuries. He was limited to 24 starts in 2022 due to a right forearm injury, and only appeared in 15 games in 2021 due to right shoulder injuries. Now, he's healthy and a full time starter entering 2023.

Gonsolin has played in parts of 4 big league seasons since being called up in 2019 by the Dodgers. He has posted a 2.51 ERA, 3.45 FIP, and 0.99 WHIP, throwing 272 2/3 innings while striking out 267 hitters in 51 starts and 8 relief appearances. Gonsolin has an inflated 9.20 ERA in 8 career playoff games, 4 of which have been starts.

In 2019, 2020, and 2021, Gonsolin was bouncing back and forth between starting and relief pitching, which was also the case in the playoffs. Entering 2022, the Dodgers made it clear early in spring training that Gonsolin was going to be a full time starter, and he had a breakout season on the mound despite the forearm injury.

So far this offseason, the Dodgers have brought in Miguel Rojas and JD Martinez while releasing Trevor Bauer in a rare quiet offseason for the Dodgers.
