Looking to extend some players, they got one done. The Philadelphia Phillies and RHP Seranthony Dominguez have agreed to a two year, $7.5 million contract extension, according to an announcement by the team.

Domiguez will make $2.5 million in 2023 and $4.5 million in 2024 as part of his new deal. There is a team option for 2025 that is worth $8 million and has a $500,000 buyout attached to it. The deal covers Dominguez's final two arbitration eligible seasons with an option to delay his free agency by one year as well.

Asked about signing his extension, Dominguez said that "It’s a really special day for me and my family. I just want to be here for the Phillies, and I would like to be here forever, because it’s the only family that I know. The Phillies' clubhouse is a nice place to be right now."

Last season, Dominguez turned in a fine season for the Phillies. He ended the regular season with a 1.14 WHIP, 3.00 ERA, and 3.09 FIP, getting 9 saves while throwing 51 innings over 54 appearances. Dominguez had a 1.69 ERA in 9 postseason appearances, totaling 10 2/3 innings pitched.

Dominguez has 4 major league seasons with the Phillies under his belt since debuting in 2018. In that time, he has an identical 3.14 ERA and FIP to go with a 1.10 WHIP. He has made 135 relief appearances and thrown 134 2/3 innings with 25 career saves. The 2022 postseason is Dominguez's only playoff stats.

Throughout his career, Dominguez has his share of injuries that had left his career in doubt. In 2019, he tore a ligament in his arm that eventually led to him missing all of 2020 and all but one game in 2021 due to Tommy John Surgery. He then dealt with tendinitis in his right triceps in 2022.

Dominguez will remain as one of the high leverage relief options in the Phillies bullpen alongside Jose Alvarado. This offseason, the Phillies have added several impact relievers, bringing in Gregory Soto, Craig Kimbrel, and Matt Strahm to go with star shortstop Trea Turner to boost the lineup.
