Depth was something they lost, and now they're replenishing it. The Philadelphia Phillies and 2B/3B Josh Harrison have agreed to a one year, $2 million deal, according to Harrison's agency. The Phillies have confirmed the addition.

After trading Matt Vierling and Nick Maton as part of a deal for Gregory Soto, the Phillies needed to reload on depth, and Harrison is part of the solution alongisde Kody Clemens, who they got along with Soto. Harrison signed a minor league deal with the Phillies in 2020 but asked for and was granted a release.

Last season, Harrison suited up in the AL Central with the Chicago White Sox. In his only season on the south side, he posted a .256 batting average, .370 slugging percentage, and .687 OPS, hitting 7 home runs with 27 RBI's in 119 games played for the White Sox.

One thing Harrison brings to the table is defensive versatility, which is a need in Philadelphia. He played second and 3rd base along with time in left field and shortstop last season, even pitching 3 innings. Over his entire career, Harrison has played every position except catcher.

Harrison has suited up for 5 different teams across 12 seasons in the majors, debuting in 2011 with the Pittsburgh Pirates. In that time, he has a .272 batting average, .318 on base percentage, and .398 slugging percentage, hitting 71 home runs with 378 RBI's in 1,168 games played. He has a .286 batting average and .661 OPS in 4 career playoff games.

Serving as a key piece in the Pirates playoff runs in the mid 2010s, Harrison has two all star games to his name, making the midsummer classic in 2014 and 2017. In that 2014 season, he also finished in 9th place in voting for the NL MVP, which went to Clayton Kershaw.

With the Phillies, Harrison joins Clemens, Garrett Stubbs, Daulton Guthrie, and Edmundo Sosa as players on the bench, with Darick Hall and Jake Cave also in the mix for a bench spot.
