Donnie Barrels is off to the Midwest. The Minnesota Twins and IF Donovan Solano have agreed to a one year, major league contract, according to The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal. The Twins have confirmed the addition.

Financial terms of the deal are not known, but the addition of Solano helps shore up the Twins infield depth, which has its share of injury concerns. Solano gives the Twins flexibility in their infield as well, having played every infield position in the majors in his career.

Solano also gives the Twins another option along with Michael A Taylor for at bats against lefty pitchers. He is a career .282 hitter with a .711 OPS against southpaws, while Taylor has a .257 batting average and .722 OPS against lefty pitching. That gives the Twins platoon options in their lineup.

Twins manager Rocco Baldelli said that "We’re trying to solidify several different lineups that we’re going to want to construct during the year. It’s not that easy to create a roster with this many options that fit together well. We have the ability right now that we were looking for, and also the fits we were looking for, which makes it doubly exciting on our end."

Last year, Solano suited up for the Cincinnati Reds, the 4th team he's played for in the majors. Solano ended the season with a .284 batting average, .385 slugging percentage, and .724 OPS, adding 4 home runs with 24 RBI's and 19 walks in 80 games of action.

Solano has played in the majors for 9 seasons, split between 4 teams. In that time, Solano has compiled a .278 batting average, .327 on base percentage, and .374 slugging percentage, hitting 27 home runs with 206 RBI's in 686 games played. He is hitless in 9 career plate appearances in the postseason, all of which came in 2021.

This offseason, the Twins have been quite busy. They re-signed Carlos Correa and added Taylor, Solano, Pablo Lopez, Kyle Farmer, Christian Vazquez, and Joey Gallo to the roster.
