After a career revival, a new contract is in hand. The Chicago White Sox and SS Elvis Andrus have agreed to a one year, $3 million contract, according to an announcement by the team on Monday.

Andrus was released by the Oakland Athletics around the midseason mark and latched on with the White Sox on August 19. He hit .271 with a .309 on base percentage and .464 slugging percentage in 43 games for the White Sox, and now he returns for another season.

White Sox GM Rick Hahn said of Andrus that "What I think many people who weren’t close to the team may well have missed was the impact he had in our clubhouse. He is a tremendous role model for our young players. His work ethic, his professionalism, the way he plays the game, are all great benefits to that club."

Last season for Andrus was a tale of two halves between the Athletics and White Sox. He combined for a .249 batting average, .404 slugging percentage, and .707 OPS, hitting 17 home runs with 58 RBI's, adding 18 stolen bases in 149 games.

With shortstop Tim Anderson back and healthy entering 2023, Andrus will move to second base with the White Sox this season. He will likely be the backup option behind Anderson at short, but he will move to second, a position he has never played in the major leagues. The one time he played second base professionally came in 2005, when he was a 16 year old prospect in the Gulf Coast League.\

Andrus has played for the White Sox, Athletics, and Texas Rangers over his 14 big league seasons. He has amassed a .270 batting average, .326 on base percentage, and .371 slugging percentage, hitting 96 home runs with 371 RBI's to go with 335 stolen bases in 1,947 games played. In the playoffs, Andrus has a .266 batting average, hitting one home run with 7 RBI's in 42 playoff games.

While Andrus and Anderson are the middle infield starters for the White Sox, they also have Leury Garcia and Romy Gonzalez on the roster. Additionally, Hanser Alberto is in camp as a non roster invite.
