The future is in good hands in Cleveland. 2B/SS Andres Gimenez and the Cleveland Guardians have agreed to a 7 year, $106.5 million contract extension, according to Jeff Passan of ESPN. The team has not confirmed.

Gimenez is under contract for this season already, as the extension will start in 2024. The deal covers all 3 of his arbitration eligible seasons and 4 of his free agency seasons. There is also a team option for 2031 that is worth $23 million and can increase to a $24 million option through incentives. The option has a $2.5 million buyout and Gimenez also gets a $4 million signing bonus.

Before the 2022 season, Edwin Encarnacion's 3 year, $60 million deal was the largest in team history. Jose Ramirez surpassed that with his 7 year, $124 million contract. Gimenez's deal is now the second largest in team history. Gimenez finished in 6th in AL MVP voting in 2022.

Last season was Gimenez's first full season in Cleveland, making his first all star game. He ended the season with a .297 batting average, .466 slugging percentage, and .837 OPS, stealing 20 bases and hitting 17 home runs with 69 RBI's in 146 games.

Gimenez has played 3 seasons in the majors, split between the New York Mets and the Guardians. He has amassed a .274 batting average, .345 on base percentage, and .429 slugging percentage, hitting 25 home runs with 97 RBI's and 39 stolen bases in 263 games. Gimenez has one RBI and one stolen base in 7 playoff games, recording 5 hits and one walk.

With runners in scoring position, Gimenez hit .387 with a 1.205 OPS last season. In tie games, he has a .339 batting average and .998 OPS. He took home an AL Gold Glove for his defensive work at second base. The Guardians acquired him in the Francisco Lindor trade in between the 2020 and 2021 seasons.
