The Spring Training injury bug is starting to hit across the league. Colorado Rockies 2B/SS Brendan Rodgers dislocated his shoulder and could need season ending surgery, according to Rockies manager Bud Black.

Diving for a ball in a spring training game against the Texas Rangers on Tuesday, Rodgers dislocated his left shoulder, having it popped back in by a trainer. After multiple MRI's on his shoulder, more extensive damage was revealed, and season ending surgery is on the table for Rodgers.

Black talked about the injury, saying "That’s the frustrating thing for Brendan and for us, because we’ve talked about his place on this team and where he is in his career. I was going to quit referring to him as a young player. This is now his time. This setback is a tough one because I really do think that he was ready for a big year."

After a struggle of a first month in 2022, Rodgers bounced back and ended the season on a decent note. He ended the season with a .266 batting average, .325 on base percentage, and .733 OPS, hitting 13 home runs with 63 RBI's in 137 games, winning a gold glove at second base.

Over his career, debuting in 2019, Rodgers has had his share of ups and downs. In his playing time, Rodgers has compiled a .266 batting average, .414 slugging percentage, and .318 on base percentage, driving in 123 runs to go with 28 home runs and 54 doubles in 271 games, the large majority of which have come in the last two seasons.

As for replacements in the infield, the Rockies have Alan Trejo on the 40 man roster, and Ryan McMahon, currently slated to play 3rd base, has played a strong share of time at second base in the majors. Non roster candidates include Harold Castro, Coco Montes, and Cole Tucker.
