The kids are doing just fine for Canada's team. Vladimir Guerrero Jr homered, Cavan Biggio added a blast of his own, and the Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Kansas City Royals with a 6-3 victory on Thursday afternoon in Kansas City.

With the win, the Blue Jays have won 3 straight games to improve to 4-3 this season, sweeping the Royals to gain momentum early in the season. 5 different hitters drove in runs for the Blue Jays, with Matt Chapman being the only hitter with multiple RBI's in the win.

Toronto jumped out to an early lead in the first inning. It was Chapman who collected his two RBI's, doubling to left field to score Guerrero Jr and Daulton Varsho, making it 2-0 Blue Jays early. In the second inning, Bo Bichette hit an RBI single to make the lead 3-0. Biggio followed that with a solo home run in the 4th inning, making it 4-0 Blue Jays.

When the 5th inning came around, Guerrero Jr made his mark on the game, hitting a solo home run to make the Blue Jays lead 5-0. Bichette scored on a single from Varsho in the 7th inning, making the score 6-0. In the 8th inning, Bobby Witt Jr hit a solo home run, Vinnie Pasquantino hit an RBI single, and Edward Olivares hit an RBI double to get the Royals on the board and make the score 6-3, which went final.

Blue Jays manager John Schneider said of Guerrero Jr's power after his homer that "There’s no one that hits the ball harder than him. Maybe a couple of guys in New York, but he doesn’t need to cheat to try to get the bat head out."

It was Kevin Gausman who started for the Blue Jays, throwing 6 shutout innings with 7 strikeouts to get the win. Anthony Bass pitched a scoreless 7th inning before Trevor Richards, Tim Mayza, and Yimi Garcia all pitched the 8th. Adam Cimber worked the 9th inning to get the save.

Gausman was opposed by Jordan Lyles for the Royals. Lyles took the loss, allowing 5 runs on 8 hits and 9 strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings pitched. Amir Garrett finished the 6th inning before Jose Cuas pitched the next two innings. Scott Barlow came on and worked a scoreless 9th inning.

Asked about the slow start by the team, Witt Jr said that "We’re human, so whenever you lose, you are going to get frustrated. That’s part of it. Now, it’s just how you bounce back. The frustration builds to good things. You learn from it. Keep moving forward and times will get better."

Both teams play on Friday to start weekend series. Chris Bassitt will get the start for the Blue Jays as they face the Los Angeles Angels, while Brad Keller starts for the Royals against the San Francisco Giants.
