The guy they call Stone was stone cold in this one. Victor Robles drove in the winning run, Stone Garrett had 5 RBI's, and the Washington Nationals defeated the Colorado Rockies with a 7-6 victory on Saturday night in Denver.

After dropping the opening game of the series, the Nationals have won two straight games, ensuring no worse than a series split against the Rockies. Garrett's 4 hits and 5 RBI's were each career highs for the outfielder, who also ended the game a triple shy of the cycle.

Nationals manager Dave Martinez said of Garrett's game that "He picked us up today. He had a great day. I love the way he’s been swinging. He played last week and it did the same thing."

Garrett started the scoring emphatically in the 3rd inning, blasting a 3 run home run to center field, making it 3-0 Nationals. In the top of the 5th, he scored Alex Call and CJ Abrams with a two run single, making the lead 5-0. Brian Serven got the Rockies on the board in the bottom of the 5th with an RBI double to make it a 5-1 game.

In the 6th inning, Yonathan Daza scored on a Ryan McMahon sac fly to cut the Rockies deficit to 5-2. Jeimer Candelario singled home Garrett in the 7th and Lane Thomas scored on a Robles sac bunt in the 8th inning to make the Nationals lead 7-2. In the 9th, a two run home run from Mike Moustakas and a two run single from Elias Diaz made things interesting, but the Nationals clamped down after that.

Getting the start for the Nationals was Trevor Williams, who got the win with a line of two runs on 5 hits and 4 strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings. Hunter Harvey finished the 6th before Mason Thompson pitched a scoreless 7th inning. Kyle Finnegan, Anthony Banda, and Carl Edwards Jr also pitched.

Starting for the Rockies was Austin Gomber, who allowed 5 runs on 7 hits and a walk in 4 2/3 innings pitched. Connor Seabold came on and allowed one run and 3 strikeouts in 2 1/3 innings. Brent Suter then pitched the next two innings, allowing one run on two hits and a walk.

Moustakas said after the game that "We’ve got some great players on this team and we’ve got some young guys. They’re still learning the big leagues. A couple of times, even myself, we start chasing out of the zone and not sticking to our approach. But I love the aggressive side, man. I love when guys are out there swinging at good pitches. The more we get into the year, the better off we’re going to be."

The Nationals go for 3 wins in a row and the series win on Sunday afternoon as they start Chad Kuhl. The Rockies look to pick up a split with Ryan Feltner getting the start.
