They were looking for offense. They got it and then some. David Villar homered twice, Mike Yastrzemski drove in two runs, and the San Francisco Giants routed the Chicago White Sox with a 12-3 victory on Monday afternoon in Chicago.

After dropping the opening series of the year, the Giants dropped 12 runs on the White Sox, hitting 7 home runs in the convincing victory. 6 different players left the yard in the Giants order, with Villar accounting for two home runs. It's the most homers by the Giants since July of 2002 in Colorado.

Villar said of the power surge that "I think it was just continuing to get our ‘A’ swings off. The important thing for us is continuing to get those really good swings off and not being hesitant about making them. If we’re going to make a swing, let’s make it with intent. I think that really showed today, one through nine."

Joc Pederson started the homer barrage in the second inning, hitting a solo home run. Roberto Perez hit an RBI single to double the Giants lead to 2-0. Yastrzemski doubled in a run in the 3rd to make it 3-0. Michael Conforto, Thairo Estrada, Yastrzemski, and Villar each hit solo home runs in the 4th inning, making the lead 7-0.

In the 7th inning, an RBI double from Andrew Vaughn and an RBI groundout from Yasmani Grandal got the White Sox on the board to make it 7-2. Luis Robert Jr hit a solo homer in the 8th to make it 7-3. In the 9th inning, Bryce Johnson hit a solo home run for the Giants to make it 8-3. Villar punctuated the win with a grand slam, making the final score 12-3.

Giants manager Gabe Kapler said of the offense that "It was really encouraging. Sometimes you need to see the good things happen,” Kapler said. “It’s encouraging to see that all happen at once in one game, for Conforto, Yastrzemski, Pederson to continue to get the production and to see Villar come up big for us today."

Anthony DeSclafani started and got the win for the Giants, pitching 6 scoreless innings with 4 strikeouts. Sean Manaea worked the next two innings in relief, allowing 3 runs on two hits and two walks. Tyler Rogers pitched a scoreless 9th inning to close the win.

Michael Kopech started and got shelled for the White Sox, allowing 7 runs on 8 hits and 3 walks in 4 2/3 innings. Jose Ruiz allowed the other 5 runs in 1/3 of an inning. Jake Diekman and Jimmy Lambert had scoreless appearances, with position player Hanser Alberto taking the mound in the 9th inning.

Asked about his start, Kopech said that "If there was a specific positive to take away from today, the changeup is better than it has ever been. I have a fourth pitch that I’m comfortable throwing. Unfortunately, the three I’ve always been comfortable throwing got hit pretty hard. It’s just going to be mixing better and taking care of what I need to take care of, which we are going to look at from all angles to figure out what that is."

The teams have a day off on Tuesday before getting back in action on Wednesday afternoon. Logan Webb will start for the Giants, opposed by Dylan Cease of the White Sox.
