Something's cooking in the desert. Corbin Carroll homered, Lourdes Gurriel Jr added a homer, and the Arizona Diamondbacks defeated the Milwaukee Brewers with a 7-3 victory on Wednesday night in Phoenix.

With their latest win, the D-Backs improved to 8-5 to start the season, also winning the series against the Brewers. They've won 5 of their last 6 games and lead the NL West to start the season. Gurriel Jr and Carroll were the big factors in this game, combining for 5 RBI's.

D-Backs manager Torey Lovullo said of the team's mentality that "We're ready to do our job every single day. And we're blocking out black noise and we're putting it on us. Maybe in years past when we were young, a little immature, we were more concerned about the team that was walking into the stadium or the team we're getting ready to play on the road. But we're putting it on us and we're taking care of our business, and I like that."

Christian Walker started the scoring in the first inning, giving the D-Backs a 1-0 lead on a groundout that scored Josh Rojas. In the 3rd inning, Gurriel Jr unleashed a three run home run, extending the D-Backs lead to 4-0. In the 4th inning, Geraldo Perdomo scored thanks to an RBI double from Rojas, making the score 5-0 D-Backs.

The Brewers got on the board in the top of the 7th inning. Mike Brosseau started it with an RBI single up the middle to score Luke Voit and make it a 5-1 game. Christian Yelich then cut the deficit to 5-3 with a two run single. Carroll then padded the D-Backs lead in the bottom of the 7th with a two run home run, making the score 7-3.

Rojas said after the game that "I don’t want to go out and say this is how we’re going to play the rest of the year, it's a game of ups and downs. You fight and you work to be a consistent team, so it’ll be interesting how we battle those ups and downs."

Drey Jameson got the start for the D-Backs, pitching 4 shutout innings with 4 strikeouts. Kevin Ginkel got the next two outs before Kyle Nelson pitched 1 1/3 innings to get the win. Luis Frias allowed 3 runs without recording an out, leaving Andrew Chafin to finish the inning. Miguel Castro and Scott McGough threw an inning each after.

Janson Junk started for the Brewers, getting tagged for 5 runs on 7 hits in 4 2/3 innings in the loss. Hoby Milner pitched a scoreless inning before giving way to Gus Varland, who allowed two runs in 1 1/3 innings. Javy Guerra pitched the 8th inning in a scoreless appearance.

Up next, the Brewers head to California on Thursday to start a series with the San Diego Padres, with Eric Lauer to get the series opening start. The D-Backs head east for a Friday matchup against the Miami Marlins, with Madison Bumgarner starting.
