There's always something going on when you go to Chavez Ravine. JD Martinez had two home runs, Clayton Kershaw had a special day on the mound, and the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the New York Mets 5-0 on Tuesday night.

With the win he got, Kershaw reached 200 career wins. He's the 3rd pitcher with the Dodgers to reach 200 wins, with Don Sutton and Don Drysdale the others. He also reached 2,833 strikeouts, passing Mickey Lolich for 22nd all time. His .694 winning percentage is the best among 200 win pitchers.

Austin Barnes, who caught Kershaw's big game, said that "I think he really wanted it. It’s a big mark. It was obviously a big win for him and for the team. Two hundred wins, it’s 10 years of 20 wins. That’s hard to do."

Martinez started the scoring right away for the Dodgers. In the first inning, he gave them a 2-0 lead with a two run home run to center field. Two innings later, in the 3rd, Martinez struck again. This time, it was a solo home run that went to right field, increasing the Dodgers lead to 3-0 after a third of the game.

The Dodgers didn't score again until late in the game. Freddie Freeman resumed the scoring in the 8th inning, hitting a sac fly that scored Barnes from 3rd base to make it 4-0 Dodgers. Martinez later singled to right center field, allowing James Outman to score to extend the Dodgers lead to 5-0. They closed out the win after that.

In his start, Kershaw improved to 3-1 on the season with the historic win. He allowed 3 hits, walking no one and striking out 9 hitters while throwing 7 shutout innings. Evan Phillips was first out of the bullpen for the 8th inning, pitching a scoreless inning. Brusdar Graterol did the same in the 9th.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said of Kershaw that "Tonight’s performance really kind of epitomized who he is as a competitor. Just overcoming a three-base error with a team that’s swinging the bats really well and to punch three, to give us that confidence, that momentum going into the bottom of the first inning, that was Clayton. He essentially put us on his back today. For him to get that 200 at home, I know that’s something he was really excited about."

Getting the start for the Mets was Tylor Megill, who was charged with 3 runs on 7 hits and 4 walks in 5 innings pitched. Denyi Reyes handled the next 1 1/3 innings, with Jeff Brigham handling 2/3 of an inning. John Curtiss allowed two runs while pitching the 9th inning.

Up next, the series wraps up on Wednesday afternoon. Noah Syndergaard gets the start for the Dodgers, while Max Scherzer will start for the Mets.
