Things are looking pretty good in the Charm City. Joey Ortiz drove in 3 runs, Anthony Santander homered, and the Baltimore Orioles defeated the Detroit Tigers with a 7-4 victory on Thursday night in Detroit.

The Orioles have now won 9 of their last 10 games and two in a row to improve to 17-8 and second place in the AL East. The big story was a 7th inning rally for the win and a 3 RBI day for Ortiz in his major league debut. Don Baylor is the only other Orioles player with a 3 RBI game in his debut.

Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said of Ortiz that "He got some big hits for us, and he could have another one if Baddoo doesn't make a great play on his first at-bat. Don Baylor is pretty good company for any hitter."

Jonathan Schoop gave the Tigers an early lead, scoring Eric Haase in the second inning with a groundout. One inning later, the Tigers took a 3-0 lead thanks to a two run single from Haase. In the 5th inning, Ortiz drove in a pair of runs with a single to right field, getting the Orioles on the board and making it a 3-2 game.

In the 6th inning, Nick Maton drew a bases loaded walk to extend the Tigers lead to 4-2. In the 7th, Ortiz started the rally with a sac fly to make it 4-3. Cedric Mullins tied the game with an RBI triple before a sac fly from Adley Rutschman put the Orioles ahead 5-4. Santander then hit a two run home run to make it 7-4 and cap off the rally.

Orioles starting pitcher Kyle Gibson said of Ortiz "That’s a big spot for a rookie to come up. For the most part, Wentz had his way with us. Whether it’s a veteran or a young guy, you just don’t see that very often. And he had the most RBIs since Don Baylor and tied a club record. So that’s a pretty cool night. Hopefully he enjoys it. That was pretty awesome."

Gibson got a no decision in his start for the Orioles, allowing 3 runs on 8 hits in 4 1/3 innings. Mike Baumann finished the 5th inning before Cionel Perez allowed a run in the 6th. Bryan Baker got the win, with Keegan Akin and Felix Bautista closing out the win.

It was Joey Wentz who got the start for the Tigers, getting the no decision with two runs allowed on 4 hits in 5 2/3 innings pitched. Jose Cisnero finished the 6th inning, before Chasen Shreve allowed 5 runs while getting just two outs in the 7th inning. Will Vest pitched the next 1 1/3 innings before Tyler Alexander pitched the 9th inning.

Tigers manager AJ Hinch said of Wentz's start that "I love how he commanded the at-bats for the most part and really went into attack mode. Seeing a team for the second time in five days, not easy, but he certainly did a nice job of using his pitches."

The series was originally supposed to continue on Friday, but that game has been rained out. The teams will instead play a doubleheader on Saturday.
