It took them a second, but they finally got the win. Kyle Schwarber homered and drove in two runs, Brandon Marsh homered, and the Philadelphia Phillies defeated the New York Yankees with a 4-1 victory on Tuesday night in the Bronx.

The Phillies finally picked up their first win of 2023 after starting out 0-4 prior, in which they had been outscored 37-12. After a 1 for 17 start to the season, Schwarber got the Phillies on the board first to set the tone early. It was also his 200th career long ball

Schwarber said after the game that "It feels good. I think the biggest thing is being able to start up with the lead. The personal accomplishments will come after I’m done playing. Cool stat, cool thing. But I’m happy about the win. I think the biggest thing was to get the lead, and Strahmmy pitched his butt off. He hasn’t had the chance to build up, he goes out there and goes four strong and the bullpen comes in and does its thing."

The first run of the game came on Schwarber's solo home run to right field, making it a 1-0 lead for the Phillies. Marsh was next in line, hitting a solo home run of his own in the 3rd inning, doubling the lead to 2-0. In the 5th inning, Marsh was able to scored on an RBI single to center field from Trea Turner.

Up next after Turner was Schwarber, who added an RBI single of his own to right field, scoring Garrett Stubbs to make it a 4-0 game. There were no more runs until the 9th, when DJ Lemahieu got the Yankees on the board with a solo home run. The Phillies shut it down after that.

Getting the start for the Phillies was Matt Strahm, who got a no decision with 4 shutout innings. Andrew Bellatti pitched the 5th inning and got credit for the win. Jose Alvarado pitched the 6th, followed by two innings from Connor Brogdon. Craig Kimbrel allowed a run in the 9th but closed the win.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said of Strahm that "I thought he had a presence on the inner half with us. He's got that ride on his fastball. So he was working it well up above the belt and then also spinning it down in the zone. So we had a couple of different things to cover. And I think his fastball was really playing a little bit more. Our good swings on it, we were fouling some pitches off or just missing some balls. And I think that was, some of the life he had."

It was Domingo German who started for the Yankees, allowing 4 runs on 4 hits in 4 2/3 innings pitched, getting the loss. After that, 1 1/3 scoreless innings from Michael King, two innings from Albert Abreu, and one inning from Jimmy Cordero kept the Yankees in it, to no avail.

The Phillies and Yankees wrap up their series on Wednesday. Aaron Nola starts for the Phillies, opposed by Gerrit Cole.
