Sometimes, the pesky teams can make it hard on you. Wil Myers drove in two runs, Spencer Steer had an RBI, and the Cincinnati Reds defeated the Philadelphia Phillies with a 6-2 victory on Thursday in Cincinnati.

After being swept by the Atlanta Braves, the Reds got back on track with a win at home against the skidding Phillies. 4 different players drove in runs for the Reds, with Myers being the only player with more than one RBI in the win.

Myers said after the game that "I got exposed a little bit in some games in Atlanta, so I felt like I definitely needed to cover the outer half a little bit better. So I got on the plate a little bit. I feel like it gave me some more coverage on the outer half. So far, it’s working pretty well."

Nick Castellanos gave the Phillies an early lead in the first inning with an RBI single. In the bottom of the inning, Jonathan India scored for the Reds, tying the score 1-1. In the 3rd inning, Steer, Tyler Stephenson, and Myers each hit RBI singles, giving the Reds the lead by a 4-1 score after 3 innings of play.

When the top of the 5th inning rolled around, Kyle Schwarber got the Phillies a run back with a solo home run, cutting the deficit to 4-2. In the bottom half of the inning, Stuart Fairchild scored on a single from Myers, making the Reds lead 5-2. In the 6th inning, the Reds took a 6-2 lead Jose Barrero hitting an RBI double.

Cincinnati manager David Bell said of the team's approach at the plate that "We had a meeting today. The message was to fight for every pitch, kind of doubling down on who we are. The singles were big, the two out hits, the add on runs is what our offense did. Wil has been doing this for quite a while. He’s a good hitter and knows what he’s doing."

Nick Lodolo got the start for the Reds and the win, allowing two runs while striking out 6 hitters in 5 innings pitched. Alex Young then pitched two scoreless innings, leading to 1 2/3 innings from Derek Law. Alexis Diaz came in for the final out and got the save, his second of the season.

It was Bailey Falter who started for the Phillies, allowing 5 runs on 8 hits and a walk in 4 2/3 innings, getting the loss. Andrew Bellatti finished the 5th inning for the Phillies before McKinley Moore pitched the 6th inning. Andrew Vasquez pitched the final two innings, getting a scoreless appearance.

Phillies manager Rob Thomson said of the team's skid that "It ebbs and flows. We're in a little bit of down swell right now, but it will change. I think they're playing hard. We had great energy in the ninth inning. We're one batter away from getting Schwarber to the plate as the tying run."

Up next, the series continues with game two on Friday night. Connor Overton will get the start for the Reds, while Taijuan Walker starts for the Phillies.
